Agreed, when I was looking at them I was looking only at the Canyon.

On that picture though someone's removed the chin. Or have they come up with a chinless version like the TRD OR?

I think the chin is standard on all of them. I might remove mine on the Silverado.

It was when I looked at 'em in August. Even the All Terrain package.:confused::confused:

I know it's no big deal to remove one, but I did appreciate that someone at Toyota actually thought to leave the thing off of the TRD OR trim trucks.

GM hasn't produced an off road biased truck in a long time. If you look at their 'z71' or all terrain packages- it's really not worth much when you add it up.

That's why I like the LTZ trim- you get a lot more bang for the buck.

Toyota certainly views 'off road' capable more seriously. No questions there.

I say the same type of thing when people bag on my truck for being a 2 wheel drive and wouldn't cut it offroad...great, but I didn't buy it for that. Of course people who "review" my truck who wheel won't like it.

How do you think your folks feel about you using language like this? I haven't taken the time to really know, but I bet the number of times you toss out the "c" word out numbers the number of posts you have made.

That being said, I would agree, too many people expect the world to change for them, and not for them to adjust to the demands of the world.

I LOVE millennials. They work for dirt cheap. They don't like cars, so don't ask for auto allowance, and do as I say. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. If we could get rid of some of the baby boomers and replace them with millennials I can get my new Raptor with the money saved :D

Is that brand new or one of the older Silverado/Sierra 4 wheel steer models that needed that style rear fenders?

Will Tacoma be getting more gears in the AUTO in the soon to be future?

With the new LC/LS Lexus having 10 speed mated to their 6 cylinder, and the current LX570 having 8 speed, more speeds to Tacoma will be coming. Just a matter of time.

Your decision process sounds like mine. I am going to replace my big Duramax later this year when we sell our 37 ft trailer. I want a smaller truck that I can fit into my garage, parking easier, etc.

The 2017 Tacoma is at the top of my list right now. To your main reasons above I'd add the compact blade antenna, as I will be mounting a kayak rack on the roof and the GM's whip antenna appears fragile and would probably get in the way loading kayaks. Actually I placed the composite bed in the Plus column, but then I've never used one. What is the problem with them? Sounds like gear sliding around due little friction? To the Tacoma's Negatives, I'd add the rough ride (compared to the GMs). I'm not bothered by the rear drum brakes....it just seems an oddity with today's technology. I think I read somewhere the stopping distance was not significantly different that the GM trucks.

I would probably get TRD Odd-Road with Premium and Technology package, the OR model mainly for the somewhat softer ride (compared to the TRD Sport). We want heated seats, and the moon roof and blind spot monitoring are nice options. We drove both TRD models, and thought they were good comfortable trucks, the only negative was a somewhat rough ride. I'd estimate the OR had maybe a 10% softer ride than the Sport. I do not plan any off road activities, and in fact probably wouldn't get 4wd if I could find a 2wd at at good price. Winters here rarely present snow and ice, so I don't need 4wd....plus I'm retired; if the weather is rotten I stay in front of the fireplace!

So far I am surprised that the Tacoma is actually less expensive than a comparable GM product.....at least configured the way I'd want mine. To get the heated seats I have to play a lot....and there is no moon roof or keyless start. I did drive a 2016 Colorado L71, and it had a terrific ride, but seemed to have transmission or engine problems when I accelerated up an on-ramp. My Tacoma test drive did not include that particular area; I need to do that to see how it does the same ramp.

Was your test drive a 2016 or 2017? I briefly drove a 2016 Colorado and it seems to have the delay issues. Curious if the 2017 does. I've read on other forums that that problem has been cured?

I suppose it depends on WHICH bells and whistles? I don't have any mid-sized truck, but for the things I want, GM doesn't offer them: keyless start, moon roof, blind spot monitoring. The GM line does have a much nicer ride, and power seats, but I don't need the power seats as I'll be the driver 98% of the time.....the ride is the only thing that keeps me looking at the GMs.....

I don't get it? Why are you looking at a truck with how it rides as a top priority? Its a truck. I own a 16 DCLB OR and this truck drives like a Caddy compared to every other truck I've ever owned. Go look at the Ridgeline. It should ride real nice since its a unibody SUV and in my mind, not a real truck and should not even be in the class. Wait, what?

I don't recall saying the ride was my top priority, if I did earlier that was my error. I have a truck now (2008 Duramax) so I know how rough a ride a truck can have. The Tacoma TRD OR was much "softer" than that for sure! What I am saying is the GM Twins have a softer ride than the Tacoma, which is why they are still on my list.

Nah, the Ridgeline doesn't appeal to me at all. I do not care for front wheel drive. and the Ridgeline's electronics apparently have issues as well. I also don't like the looks much.....
