    Larry,

I'm not calling you out or anything of the sort, but, you are incorrect sir. Your 98' Blazer (or every other one in the country) came with a "Vortec" 4.3l V-6. That engine is basically a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off. The fuel injection was a weird hybrid mechanical / electronic port injection. Kinda like a TBI with a mechanical fuel distributor that would direct fuel to 1 of the 6 "injectors" and the FPR was located under the intake manifold. These systems were prone to leak down after the vehicle was off for a while. Then you would go to restart and you would be dealing with basically a flooded engine.

Difficult injection system to add A wet nitrous system to. Been there, done that. So, I can honestly say that I have had some experience wrenching on them.

That engine is not mechanically related to the 3.5 or the 3.6.

The 3.5 was a 2 valve per cylinder pushrod driven valve train. The 3.6 is a 4 valve per cylinder, dual over head cam engine.

The old and new 4.3l are 2 valve per cylinder engines, push rod actuated. The new 4.3 does have variable valve timing and DFI as well. It's closely related to the new5.3 mechanically.

Now back on subject to the up coming Colorado, they will be fitted with the newer 3.6l that is found in the Camaro. Good engine, high RPM (in the Camaro at least) but that engine is not known for gobs of low end torque. As mentioned from many sources, it is supposed to be "re-tuned" for more low end power when installed in the Colorado. Whether that means that the cams will be swapped out and the VVT actuation with be adjusted is anyone's guess. I personally feel that the NEW 4.3l is a superior choice for the new Colorado. More HP/TQ, less complicated, less moving parts, and most likely,,, comparable MPG.

I have a love / hate relationship with GM. They have all the parts they need in the parts bin, but they always or almost always go the wrong direction when it comes to reading into what the consumer wants.

I disagree. I have owned many Nissans and they are just as reliable as our toyotas have been.

And at least mine, leaked like a sieve. Repaired once to a tune of nearly $1000 to replace the crankcase position sensor. Couple months later it was leaking again. Ugh.

Oh man the Alzheimer's must be kicking in. I'd have swore the 98 Blazer had a 3.5L. It was listed at 190HP - it was a nice car to drive around the suburbs, but when we started talking about a boat, I knew it would be a problem. That's when I upgraded to a 2007 Trailblazer and opted for the 5.3L V8. Now that had plenty of omph to tow the boat. Unfortunately, after ticking over 100K miles, one thing after another started having problems. Oil leaks, two starters, door switches, and worse of all the computer that runs the damn thing started flaking out. Enter the Tacoma. Yay!

Honestly, I really hope the Colorado and new Frontier kick the current-gen Tacoma's behind... it'll force Toyota to quit resting on it's laurels and do more than a fascia update with some different stickers on the bed.

Honestly the only thing I would really want to see changed about the current gen Tacoma is better fuel mileage.

X's 2. I have no idea what people are talking about wanting all this change. The current gen Tacoma is one sweet truck.

Even the current Tacoma is getting 20 mpg, that is pretty good for a truck. Yes it would be nice to get 26 city, then guys would still add lifts and roll 33" MT's and drop it back to 20 anyway.

    Amen to that Brotha'.

I've been doing a lot of driving for my second job ( no, not delivering pizza's lol ) and going through nearly $100 per week (17ish mpg) sucks.

That and maybe one more request of mother Toyota.
Please use better quality materials on the interior. It doesn't have to have every bell and whistle known to man.

Chances are good that when the new Tacoma comes out I will seriously check it out. My truck will be due for replacement about a year before that, and I'll stick it out until then. I'm going to look at the Colorado as well but not the Nissan I think. I've never been much of a Nissan fan.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Toyota ends up doing. I'd be very happy with a AC pre-runner type of truck with a 230-250 hp turbo 4 cylinder if that would ever happen. My X-Runner is getting a little long in the tooth at this point.

If that is the new girlfriend, don't trade her in! Hahaha

See, you have to realize that TW is just a VERY small percentage of the Tacoma owners in the US. Your statement really is invalid since TW is only 10% of the Tacoma owner's market.

I probably should have clarified. Nissan trucks really ain't bad. My buddy drives an older one, first car he ever bought. But their cars are what are unreliable. I apologize for my mistake.

They're not loud anymore. Most of the new ones you can hardly even tell are a diesel by the sound.

    Howdy,
you might not be able to hear them rattle anymore but you sure can smell them. Where I live diesel fuel is about $.20 per gallon more than gasoline. You will also take a pretty good shot when it is oil changing time. I have no use for an expensive to operate oil burning stinker. Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!

My neighbor just got the Nissan Frontline PRO 4x4 and I have to say it is a really nice truck. I brought the 14 limited and think he has better features. My other neighbor brought 6.2 L Raptor lets just say he squashed our two trucks lol

No one is suggesting to make it the only engine available. Having it as an option would be nice though. Agreed on the oil changes but they typically get 20-30% better fuel economy which negates a higher fuel cost.
