^Don't diss the corner step. It's one of GM's three design innovations in the last decade! :p

How can you compare a TOYOTA tacoma to a chevy?

I mean I know they are both mid sized trucks but seriously?

I owned a 2012 camaro rs convertible and the thing was squeaking at 20k miles. Thats a freaking joke.

Tacomas have a reputation for being amazing trucks and retain their value like CRAZY.

I just don't understand how anyone could buy a chevy over a toyota. Please educate me because this is stupid imo. I am not just saying this bc I own a toyota but from personal experience.

Maybe its an American pride thing? I don't know...

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
There are tons of Chevy S10 trucks till on the road.

Chevy has committed to a diesel option for their new truck and has a good reputation for diesel engines.

The Tacoma platform is old and outdated. Proven tough as nails yes, but it's a tired platform that has seen little engineering changes in its lifespan of the 2nd gen. Chevy is coming in with a new truck, new engineering.

Bottom line, hopefully it helps Toyota come out with a 3rd gen soon. And hopefully throw in a Cummins diesel option.

I heavily weighed the Colorado and the Tacoma. There were times where I was convinced I was getting a Colorado and vice versa. I ultimately ended up with a 2015 Taco I picked up last night. Here's why -

There is no doubt the Colorado is a "nicer" truck. It's a newer, more contemporary design both inside and out. It has many standard features and optional equipment not even available on the Tacoma. Things like power adjustable seats, 4G LTE, automatic climate control, tailgate assist, etc etc. It has better gas mileage, more power, higher payload and towing capacities.

However, although it's V6 has been proven in other vehicles and its frame/overall design have been taken from the Silverado, none of it has been proven in the brand new Colorado. And GM doesn't have the greatest rep in that department. Although we don't know this for sure with the Colorado, GM's resale value and cost of ownership is pretty laughable compared to Toyota as a whole.

Ultimately, I went with the Tacoma because of the reliability of the 10 year old design. Also, because of a great trade in value I got, I would have a fairly big amount of equity in the vehicle from day one. I didn't want to see that disappear just by driving off the lot. Toyota's resale value meant I could maintain that equity. There's also the robust Toyota and aftermarket part and accessory support, etc.

If had been another year or two, and hypothetically the Colorado proved to be problem free, etc. and Toyota had not yet updated the Tacoma then it would be a much harder decision and I probably would go Colorado.

Come talk to me in 3-5 years. If you use your truck, well, like a truck it'll have rattles in no time.

Ruins all the fun of a good truck if you gotta open the door and walk around back to hear if the motor's running.

Choices choices choices.....We have choices in trucks and that's a good thing.

Someone on a Chevy forum is probably saying the same thing about a Toyota!?? Why would anyone buy a Toyota??

Doesn't matter what you or I think......They're selling.

If that's a good indication though it will look pretty nice with a solid 3" lift on it.... I think you're nit-picking anyway because honestly the Tacoma's stock flex is pitiful compared to real offroad vehicles anyway. Despite the locker in the back of mine I've conceded that it's basically an on-road vehicle until it gets a solid axle under the front end or a LT setup.

^The stock Tacoma has a lot more droop travel in the front than shown in that picture. The way it looks now the new Colorado will be riding on the travel stops with a 3" lift on it.

Doesn't look like it will be a bad truck, and it will be far more modern than the 2014 Tacoma in terms of engine and features (not saying much). All things considered I'd still take a Tacoma over the Colorado, for now anyways.

It's pretty obvious which truck was built with off-road targets in mind and which wasn't.

GM didn't build it to cater to off-roading because there simply is no demand for that. People who want to off road buy Wranglers and mod them. And while off-roaders may SEEM like a huge industry to people who sit on the internet, the reality is that the number of those people who translate to new vehicle sales from an automaker's standpoint is really small.

The demand today is fuel economy and utility. Which is why we've seen the rise in CUV's.

The next generation of Tacoma could look eerily similar to the new Colorado. Remember, fuel economy is now Toyota's #1 priority just like everybody else. The number of people today who buy Tacomas for their off-roading prowess is so incredibly small, it probably doesn't even show up on Toyota's charts.

Everyone here who is disappointed in the new Colorado should be prepared to be just as disappointed in the new Tacoma...if there ever is one.
