If the ten year old tacoma beats these trucks(that have direct injection and a extra gear) in towing then the USA is basically worthless at engineering.

I don't see how it would be possible. Although these 4wd loaded 6cyl are getting the same mpg as 2.7 tacos that can't tow themselves.

Direct injection and a extra gear? I think not.
I do agree that a 8-speed trans wouldve crushed this segment at this point

extra gears just add to the decision making when towing i have found in my experience. my old job had two 2500 silverados both with the 6.0 gasser. one had a 4 spd auto the other a 6 and the 6 was constantly searching since the rpm gaps are much shorter it couldnt make up its mind which to be in. the final drive is going to be very close to the same as the tacoma i would imaging since the weight to power ration isnt that big of a difference. (well 10-15% i guess thats noticable) the extra gears will really only help city driving where to reach the next gear the engine doesnt have to rev as high.

Well it's what the manufactures are doing and why ford and gm co developed the 10 speeds. The engines are getting smaller and they are keeping the same tow ratings by adding gears.

I would hope the algorithms improved with the improved processors since that 6.0L truck and will need to continue to improve.

You're not the only one that didn't like the early six speeds. Years later they are the benchmark. Now the 8speeds in the dodges need more work.

The first gears are super super deep in the 6 and 8 speeds

Put a blower on that non direct injected tacoma and see how much timing you'll have to pull in the heat. Not even close to comparable in durability standards.

I can imagine what iats would be towing a max load up an incline.

I thought we were comparing mid sized. My bad.

I just don't see where the argument is, if you're buying a 2015 you gotta go Gm.
Tacomas were due for new drivetrains three years ago and new trucks today.

If you can wait for the next tacoma, now we're talking.

If a full size is an option, then absolutely :)

^The minimum ground clearance at the lowest point is stated as 8.6" on Chevy's web site, which is just half an inch lower than the Taco's. However, judging by the photos, the Colorado's frame is visibly lower all-around. In the picture posted earlier, the front bumper is at least a couple of inches lower, even when ignoring the soft plastic airdam.

I still like the look of the GMC Canyon then the Chevy version. Can't wait to the LA Auto show and see it in person without a salesman hoovering over me.

I loved my Tacomas. But now that I own a full size domestic, I can see why they sell so many of them. If you don't have parking constraints, go full size. It's just a much better vehicle that gives you much more for less money.

You need to get the Z71 package to have the G80 mechanical LSD included. The G80 requires 100 rpm wheel speed difference for a pawl inside the diff to lock the left and right driveshafts together.

We haven't seen any true reviews of this brand new truck, which could be a ticking GM timebomb, and you're recommending it's the only 2015 people should buy .

Unless your company gives you a full size for free use whenever you need it :D. There wasn't much point in me having two F150's in my drive way a couple of years ago when I bought my Tacoma. The Tacoma turns far tighter, feels nimble, parks better, and offroads far better than my F150 of nearly the same length did. There are a ton of reasons to either go full sized or mid sized.

I now own my Taco as a personal vehicle and a 2014 Ram 2500 SLT 4x4 as my work truck. The Ram has had a mysterious electrical issue that has killed the battery in the middle of nowhere twice and the dealer just replaced the front differential. I'll stay away from GM and Dodge thank you very much. They only reason I'll go back to Ford is because our local dealerships back them up so damn good that you know when you get a lemon you're not going to eat more than a grand on trade.

PS I still think buying a Chevy is a mistake for MANY MANY reasons, and this is coming from a guy who still has close relatives working for GM. Between the ignition issues, and issues like it that will pop up again soon, and the lack of innovation coming from that company they won't be around for long unless the US government decided to support them again next time shit hits the fan.

    Pretty much my thoughts.
I need some hauling ability on a daily basis.
But I don't need a whole lot of hauling ability.

On the very rare occasions I might need a whole lot of hauling ability, I have my trusty U-Haul account and he's only about 10 minutes down the road.

We test drove a Tundra and a 150. Although both were very nice, they were just larger than we need or want at this stage of our lives.

I like the creature comforts of modern trucks, but the body lines are getting cartoonishly steroidal in appearance.
Like the guy who walks around pumped up wearing the Gold's Gym shirt all the time, everywhere. He could be taking Holy Communion and he is still flexing up at the altar.

    I mean, it's a truck, not a penile implant. :D
