Nail on the head! Because this new truck is just the old one with a new body, flashy interior and 3.6 out of the south america version. Winner winner!

I am going to see if I can open a poll, no end date just a three simple question.

    1) Taco til the day I die
    2) Would consider the new GM twins, I have no allegiance
    3) I am switching, screw this decade old rust bucket

I hate using my truck for work, but I am prepared to pay for the gas. in the end, if you want a truck youll get a truck. Toyota is better because of the amount of miles the engine lasts, not because of fuel economy... id rather have a truck 10+ years and get average mpgs than have a truck last 5 and get great mpgs.....

This, plus that 3.6 is a car engine only time will tell if it can hold up to truck use. So far the initial reports/reviews of the 3.6 are not that great and the 2.8l diesel cannot get here fast enough to help this truck out. The main target for these new twins are CUV not truck people, it should do well with those customers but not true truck enthusiast. Hopefully the 3rd gen doesn't go this way as well.

Sure, a truck nearing it's tenth year of production without significant updates can totally compete with a brand new model. I hear Toyota plans to respond by adding an actual in-dash thermometer in their 2017 trucks.

Seriously, I get the feeling that Toyota is bowing out of the truck market and they'll run the current Tacoma (with minor changes each year) until it falls flat.

the ONLY thing that would make me want a new Tacoma is the long lasting engine, suspension sits up higher, and more hp and tourque. im at 260 hp with my mods now, and I must say this is where id like the next one stock... and I get 17 mpg, so id like it to stay about 17ish.... but I would never trust a gm engine. to be honest all the new trucks are CRAP with the fancy features. I have an 07, and it has all you will ever need...

The volt is still a great idea for people that need a long range solution.

And you'll keep buying an outdated truck at full price, where the manufacturer is raping on profit.

The point is Toyota is being piggy, a new truck should've been here yesterday

Someone's taking this personally ;). Relax. I bought my tacoma knowing exactly what I'm getting. Buying a 2015 Colorado won't be anything like that. Maybe it will be by 2017 once enough first adopters have watched there "x" part blow out.

Toyota had no reason to build a new tacoma. Now they do. Do you vacuum your house every day or wait until it needs to be done?

The government has laws to not allow companies to own markets and to encourage competitive markets for the benefit of the consumer.

You on the other hand, think it is ok for Toyota to take advantage of this VERY loyal customers(in this thread) because they don't have direct competition.

Have you run the numbers on savings of 17mpg vs 22mpg over 250,000 miles?
