If it's anything like the one on the sierra it has a couple tabs that pop right out. First thing I did with my sierra was take it off!

I really like the Canyon, but that price. Oh, and the fact that it is a GM.

If Toyota just upgraded the interior and match the HP customers would be happy and stop considering jumping ship.

Yes the air dam on my Sierra comes off with 4 screws. Then you slide out two tabs. Its very easy.

The approach angle is very good with the air dam off. About the same as my Tacoma.

The air dam on the Colorado won't be a problem. Off roaders will take it off and leave it off probably. The approach angle without it is pretty good.

so even tho the HP is considerable more than the "out dated" tacoma, tq is almost identicle and it has a 3.42 rearend as opposed to the 3.73 in our trucks. i honestly dont see it out performing the tacoma anywhere except maybe in mpg and im still skeptical about that being enough to justify buy a gm product. does it come factory with a brake controller on the tow pkg? that would be nice (thought not a big investment either way) i dont see that extra 500# being a make or brake point when it comes to towing, and would imagine that it wont hand 6000# any better than the tacoma. i could be wrong but im probably not

I wouldn't want to tow #6000 lbs with a truck our size regardless.... its not the pulling im worried about... its the stopping!

A Mitsubishi Fuso Canter uses a tiny neutered 3.0L I-4 turbo diesel with 161 HP at 3400 rpm and 295 torque at 1300 rpm. They go up to 25,700 GCWR, and this is a commercial vehicle not a toy grocery getter. See what the new Sprinter I-4 is doing? It beats the V6 TD in every category.

If your friends aren't impressed with the eco-diesel they should get the 6.7L Cummins or Duramax V8 trucks with 400 HP and 800 lb-ft torque.

The Duramax I-4 will be just fine.

I'm not calling it a bad motor. Comparing a small cube truck to a mid sized pickup is rediculous. A mid size should be nimble and have good passing power. A cube van doesn't need either of those traits, it just needs to get from point A to B. A farm tractor with a small kobota motor is rated for 30,000 pounds, does that mean I should put that motor in a truck?

The two guys I know with diesel Rams 1/2 tons are coming for 5.7 L gas jobs. It's fair to say the eco diesel is neither quick nor feels powerful compared to the 5.7 L. It does get great mileage and is pretty quiet so once you get used to the way it drives it's fine. However I know lots of city guys who will feel it's a "slow" truck.

Btw try taking a diesel 3/4 ton of heavier truck on a soft muddy field and tell me how that works for you :D.

I don't think small diesels are going to live up to the hype people are expecting. I don't think you can get gasoline type performance out of a diesel, while keeping it viable for heavy loads/towing, with the current emissions setups. Will the new diesel Colorado be fuel efficient? You bet. Will it feel like a nimble midsized truck still? I'm not so sure of that as you are. That's just my humble opinion.

What does a tractor or excavator motor have anything to do with it? Or off roading a 3/4 ton truck?

You said that the Colorado diesel will be too weak. I brought up a real world example of 2 I-4 diesels that easily get the job done right here in the USA.

A sprinter has a 2.2L engine and can tow 7500 pounds.

A 4 cylinder diesel in a 6000 GVWR truck would be just fine.

The only way a gas engine outperforms diesel is in straight line acceleration, what are we highschoolers here? Who cares if a 5.7L Tundra has 381-hp @ 5,600 rpm.

I've been passed multiple times by Tundras towing when i've been towing on my dads turbo diesel. Tundras or any other gas trucks pass and when the hills start they fall back in line where they belong.

I think the I4 Duramax Colorado will outperform the 3.6L in every way except straight line speed. My dads truck for example is pushing 700+ ft. lbs torque to the wheels and still passes emissions and gets 20+ mpg unloaded, what part of that is gas outperming?

I bet exhaust note/volume has a bunch to do with that "feeling". So many current V8s have a rumble and every redneck changes it be even louder. Therefore loud = fast to so many.

I don't like it. The Colorado looks like a redneck/mexican farmer ride. Why is it all jacked up in the back? Does it come with tassels inside or decals of what kind of livestock you raise on the doors? Looks cheap, not like a truck should...

Shitting on other Tacoma owners is exactly why you should go buy a chevy and leave TW.:p

also i miss where mr funks opinion on the looks of the GM has any relation on his ownership of a gas sipping pick up? i see no connection nor do i find it humerous.

two guys were walking down the street, one walks into a bar and the other one ducks.

    now thats humerous

But you're still here, mrbadwrench... Why do you guys with other brands of trucks come in here and hijack TW? The Colorado is a pile of ugly shit. I will defend my lowly 5-lug until I die. Mr. Yota, offense is up to you to be taken or dismissed. It's an observation. I've made 37 trips to the south throughout my 37 years... And yes, redneck rides and mexican rides are very similar. Jacked up in the back, cherry bombs, tassels...

i just call it like i see it. there was nothing amazing about u owning a 5 lugger and also stating ur opinion on the stylings of this truck. i take no offense but simply would also like to point out that mr wrench has been a member for 4 years and 1% of his total post have been in the last two pages of this thread. so i personally would hold his remarks with much regard.

Mrbadwrench's time on TW is irrelevant. And there's nothing amazing about owning a Chevy Colorado or GMC Sierra. I was sticking to OP topic. I don't think there's much in the way of competition. The Tacoma looks better. <Why is that such a controversial statement. And why do all of you assholes take every available cheap shot, at 5-lug owners? I'm sorry, is this called "6-lug only Tacoma World"?

You are in the general automotive section....my only ride could be a radio flyer wagon and I could still post here. I don't own a 2nd gen anymore and thus I don't post in that section.

I can make a friendly diss at your Tacoma in this forum just as you are free to take a shot at my Sierra. :)
