I'm only posting because I hope it forces Toyota to start putting a diesel in the Tacoma. Competition is good for the brand.

    New Chevy Colorado ZR2:
    • Front & Rear Eaton e-lockers (probably same tech as here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-ifs-e-locker-and-8-4-e-locker.438253/)
    • Optional 2.8L Duramax Diesel w/ 181 hp, 369 tq, and 30 mpg hwy (6 speed auto)
    • Multimatic DSSV shocks
    • 31" Goodyear Duratrac Tires
    • OEM Rock Sliders, Skid Plate, and Transfer Case Armor (Aluminum)
    • Cast Iron Lower Control Arms
    • 2" lift over standard Colorado
    • 3.5" wider track over standard Colorado
    • Hill Descent Control
    • Standard 3.6 V6 w/ 8 speed auto (308 hp, 275 tq, and 26 mpg hwy)

Arguably the Fox setup on the TRD Pro is a better suspension, but Chevy is offering a lot of goodies Toyota isn't. I hope it pushed the envelope for TRD.

And a MSRP of almost 3 grand less than the trd pro. (Access cab)

Competition is good, and I'd give this a serious look.

It comes with a 3.6L gas engine with a 8 speed.

Resistance to diesels seems to be greater in the USA than Canada. The fuel mileage is so much better with a Diesel engine. Lots of high mileage diesel vehicles without any major issues on our roads today. 9-10 months of the year diesel is cheaper than gasoline where I live also.

True, but i suspect emissions standards makes it more difficult than other regions (although that may change under this new administration). London just overtook Beijing, with diesel emissions being cited as a primary source of PM emissions. But I do drool over the thought of diesel tacoma.

DEF and the regularity of D.I injector pump failure scares me off newer gen. diesel engines.

Working at a large truck shop and dealing with modern albeit large diesels on a daily basis it is my belief that our government is slowly putting them out of existence. A few applications garbage trucks and school buses have switched to compressed natural gas power CNG. The complexity of modern diesel engines to make them clean is a nightmare for the owner and more of a nightmare for the technician to repair. EGR systems which clog up with carbon often cost close to $10,000 to replace. A Freightliner Cascadia with it's Detroit Diesel diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filters (DPF) "One Box" that is on the right side of the cab is a $12,000 repair bill which we do at least one every 40 to 60 days. Just this week I looked up a set of injectors for a 2 year old Detroit Diesel DD15 at $6000 for the set of 6. These repair costs are the death of the owner/operator trucker. And especially since the wake of the VW "diesel gate" emissions cheating scandal is why many manufacturers are shying away from diesels in the USA.

I agree a Diesel engine can be far more expensive to repair, but those numbers are for large rigs, and if I was buying a new diesel and planning on putting high miles I'd look into warranty to cover the powertrain for as long as I owned the vehicle.

when you can have a 1/2 ton ram averaging 8l/100 km where my hemi would average 14-15 l/100km that is very tempting if you drive a lot.

Sure glad you posted this. I'm sure Toyota wasn't aware of it, either. Lol. And I'm sure that because of your post Toyota will be forced to put diesels into Tacomas. Lmao

DEF is like $20/gal. Once we iron out HCCI or some type of sparkless gasoline ignition diesel will become obsolete. Nuematic, computer controller, camless vavles are right around the corner as well which will push gasoline leaps ahead and not really do much for diesel. Some one else mentioned, it's a dying system. Honestly though some years down the road a diesel swap into a Tacoma will have as much swag factor as a 2jz swap.
