Go with the Marlin Crawler. It is a very good clutch. If you off road at all don't buy some cheap aftermarket clutch. .

Don't quote me on shop prices. That's like asking "what does a prostitute cost?" Bout a $100 an hour, sometimes $60 though  sometimes $150+ :D
Whenever I've gone to a shop, Mr. Mckanic goes to the bathroom, pulls something out of his ass, and tries to sell it to me. I was once quoted $250 to install (1) lug stud in one of my rear wheel hubs.

These ain't no Corollas. In a FWD car, you can get a trans out in less than a half hour sometimes. And they only weigh ~80lbs.

This doesn't compare to a hulking 4x4 transmission that weighs more than I do. Much, much, much much much more work removing a rwd trans, especially 4x4.

It's your choice ultimately. To deal with the noise, or to not deal with it. I suspect cost is a large factor. At some point, the bearing will seize. That's what they do when they are no longer lubricated properly. Make noise, wear down out of spec, and seize.
That burning smell might be your clutch if you're not so friendly to it

With a transmission jack and a few tools it is actually rather easy in my opinion. Remove the drive shafts, cross member, slave cylinder, electrical connections, then unbolt the bell housing and slide it all back and down.

Easier said than done. With a lift and a trans jack, sure, no biggie. But doing it in your driveway is a whole nother world. An the reality is most people don't have access to lifts.
For me, reinstalling the trans is such a pain in the ass, even with 3 sets of hands. It's hard to know where to place the jack, as the transmission is very unbalance. It's also quite the challenge to line everything up properly your first go-round

True. We used a jack and put a ratchet strap around it and tightened as tight as we could to keep it from going anywhere. I agree in a driveway it would not be fun.

AHHH! that's a good idea! When we did the clutch in my friend's Geo Tracker 4x4 we kinda used ratchet straps and looped it through the holes in the floor and used that as resistance to pull the straps up on. looking back it's like -->

I've forgotten what you might have said earlier. Could you elaborate on this smell a bit? It is probably a leak that is working its way onto your header (most likely actually), but on some cars it can be other things. In several cars it is an issue for the blower motor box to become full of leaves and debris (as the intake is usually vertical and opens around the windshield cowl). When you turn your blower fan on, the resistors create heat and sometimes burn some of the leaves in the box.

the only way i can really describe it is a hot smell like something being burnt off but it onoly loasts about 5 mins and then stops.

So after all that and since you did it yourself you probably saved yourself a good chunk of money for other mods. You said it took you about 5 hrs? I've done quite a few transmissions as well as diesel rebuild on a mechanics skill scale how bad was it?

I really don't know what level it is on. Really not bad. Unbolt a few things, take your time, and it came right out. I would say someone that has changed a clutch before could do it. However I don't feel an inexperienced person should attempt it without some guidance.

Yeah depending on your area. I would figure around $350 to $500. It took me a little over 5 hours so figure 6 hours at a shop rate.

Ok thanks a lot I'm pretty sure it will be no problem. I've just go to wait on the marlin crawler to be back in stock.

Hate to revive an old thread but has the Marlin Crawler clutch been out of stock since this point? I want to get it myself but it's not looking good if it's been out of stock for this long.

Email them and ask..no idea. I know it was out last summer too as i had to resort with the TG ceramic clutch kit instead..very happy with it though.
