Ikr like my 97 Chevy was way worse but this truck cost way more so the more it’s taken care of the longer it’ll last and the better it’ll run

Yes they will. The OP's truck should qualify for the latest clean, descale, dry and coat the inside of the boxed frame areas program. Get that done ASAP by a dealer, then go after the external / surface rust with Fluid Film, Wool Wax or similar products.

this^^^^ and thats just normal everyday rust...nothing major, but take care of it now, and it will be less of an issue later.

I feel the same. I'm down in Mississippi, and I would have run from that truck. somebody didn't take care of that one. y'all would love our amazing 99.99% rust free beauties down here. i sold my 2012 2yrs ago, and it was absolute ZERO RUST. The frame and welds were immaculate.

Toyota will not do much to remediate until there is a rusted through section, that rust is normal here in NH where they treat the roads heavily.

Yup. Its all a matter of perspective. If you've spent your whole life living in the desert of SoCal even a little surface rust seems scary

They will clean the inside of the frame, install the plugs and spray the CRC like every other 2015 owner with the special service campaign. They aren’t going to clean the rust off the suspension or outside of the frame. They don’t descale anything.

This is correct. I just had mine done last year. They didn't do anything to the outside of the frame

I work at a dealership. We descale the inside of the box sections of the frame. You are correct in that we don't do anything to the outside though.

I remember in the early years 70s, 80s, Some people will spray diesel oil under the whole truck, for shoreline salt water fishing and if they lunch there boats. They will spray diesel oil under those vehicles.

I am not sure if this is a good idea? But some people did it.

I did work for a rust proofing company for few months, spraying the under carriage / frames was not part of the job. Mostly the body, body channels,

I researched every product I could learn about undercoating treatments from TW, AMD's The Car Care Nut (a Toyota Senior Diagnostic Technician in the Chicagoland rust belt) YT channel, and other tester on YT. It'd been 45 years since I last explored the Flathead Lake area of Montana so I made a spring break vacation trip to the New Hampshire Oil Undercoating dealer at Kalispell, really nice folks whose primary business is construction. He said they had a customer drive from Wyoming and this summer another customer will be driving up from Arizona (visiting Glacier National Park, and possibly the National Bison Range, too). They plastic bag the exhaust system to prevent the odor of product burn off, a nice touch. NHOU's website explains the week of training that dealers go through and the interactive map of dealer locations is helpful. Food grade oil-based products with a pleasant smell, and it won't kill your dog when he licks it.

Undercoating the Tacoma’s, never really thought about this? Using salt on roads, I hear is bad for all vehicles, here in Hawaii , just the salted air?
Will this become a future MOD thing to do?

People who live near the oceans, has to live with knowing the salted air corrodes everything expose, All electronics, washers dryers, all vehicles, my dad made a good living replacing fixtures, fences, fixing up the homes, damage by the salted air.

As for our undercarriage, guessing has to do where you live? They say autos never ever get rusted in Arizona?
    Aloha

Hey everyone I just wanted to say thank you to all of y’all for the advice y’all gave me . So the final outcome on the rust from Toyota is that it’s just surface rust which I saw once I got my new tires put on so talked to them when getting a tie rod replaced the other day, and they also said take a wire brush or some type of abrasive pad to take the rust off and then coat in cosmoline like y’all said to do so it worked out great thanks to you guys helping guide me . Next step is buying the cosmoline

i got the treatment for the frame from Toyota on my 2015. I dont know all the legal lingo but i thought i saw that you should get the treatment to cover possible future frame recall campaigns. Whatever, it was free. However, i think the frame corrosion has picked up since the treatment. The frame looks like sandwiched metal, and if thats the case we are all screwed. Nothing you do will get in between them no matter what toyota says they do. wire wheel to your hearts content, but it starts inside. I fluid film as needed and hope for the best. For a northeast truck it has faired ok

Thats why I like Fluid Film and similar, over time they creep into all the nooks and crannies
