Report back with your findings on PSI for front/rear. I have almost the exact same setup as you do with 255/85/16 ST MAXX and an ARB w/ winch up front but Icon coilovers. Still need to do a chalk test to find the right PSI but it seems like 35 for the front/33 for the rear seems pretty good for me.

Chenbro - Ok, will do. I'll try 35/33 per your suggestion. It's good to know that we have almost the exact same set up.

I'm guessing the tire shop set the PSI way to high during install, I'll take a look at it soon. I need to purchase a decent pressure gauge before I can really make any definitive progress. I'll report back if I have any findings.

I'm headed out to Moab in a few weeks to drive the entire White Rim in one day. My co-workers will be riding their MTB's and I'm the support wagon. It should be a decent first test.

Cooper claims 40 PSI all around, be interesting to see what you come up with.

OK, so I tried a few different PSI's over the weekend. No chalk test, all PSI was evaluated by "feel" and truck behavior so take if for what it's worth.

I drove a few local dirt & paved roads, some at highway speeds and escaped for one quick loop up on a local off-road trail called the Iron Clads.

HWY: So far my truck seams to like 40psi on the road. I tried 40 all around, 35 all around, and 30 all around. At 40 the truck seams smoother. I'll keep a close eye on tread wear as this seams a bit high to me. At 35 it was tough to feel the difference, at 30 it started to feel a bit splashy at speed.

TRAIL: Did a short off road loop yesterday in an area called Bunce School Road, in-between Lyons and Estes Park Colorado. Bunce is mostly very tame but there is a small off-shoot loop called the Iron Clads that is challenging. We went counter clockwise in the Iron Clads so we climbed the nasty stuff and descended over the rock ledge feature. No big deal but it was a good off road test for new rubber. As I still do not have portable air I set all four of my tires at 30psi. The new rubber did just fine and hooked up very well. Traction in the steep & nasty sections was noticeably better than my old ST's.

I'd like to try 25 psi and 20psi but that will have to wait until I have an on-board air system. I have not yet tried a slightly softer setting for the rear tires (such as 30 front/25 rear) and I still need to find a better pressure gauge for more accurate readings.

What PSI are you guys running off road? I do not have bead-locks, I have FJ wheels.

    Cheers,

    Salt

I just ordered a set of the FJ wheels with Cooper ST Maxx in the 265/75R16. Your review, so far, is super helpful as I am also located in the Front Range. I'll be curious to see how the lower PSI work for you off road. I should be mounting mine up this weekend. Can't wait!

This last weekend at the TAC TLCA event I aired down to 22 in front and 20 in back figuring g I could always let more out

I didn't need to but I wasn't doing extreme stuff either

There was another guy there running the same stuff on. Gen 1 dcsb
He had aired down to 18
    Hth

    What haven’t I changed?

I ran Halfmoon Creek just outside of Leadville a few weeks ago and aired down to about 24 PSI with no issues (255/85/16 on 8" wide wheels). Made a huge difference with ride comfort with all of the ruts/washboards in the dirt road leading to the trailhead.

What pressure gauge are you guys using? I picked up a digital gauge the other day but I'm going to return it b/c it won't tare correctly.

Drove about 4+ hours up north and hiked into the Mount Zirkel Wilderness last weekend scouting for Elk. The tires we a non-event on the hwy and no odd behavior was observed on 40+ mile gravel approach. Ran about 38/38 psi all week.

I also procured a Viair compressor and the ARB tire puncture repair kit. So far I've used the compressor once to air up, worked just fine. I'm going to drive the entire White Rim trail next Saturday, planning on trying 25/28 and switching it up along the way. Finding an accurate gauge I think will be the trick. Our Tacoma's are pretty light for a tire this stout so I'd wager the tuning the PSI sweet spot may be worth the effort. Time will tell.

    Cheers,

    Salt

OK, drove down to Moab last weekend to drive the support vehicle for 6 friends who rode the White Rim on their MTB's in one day. 80 miles on a MTB in one day is no small task, took us about 12 hours total. It was an awesome trip, too short but fun. The White Rim is basically a 2WD trail with 3 switchback sections that require 4Low gearing. Given the length of the trail and it's moderate nature I choose to run the PSI around 28 front / 25 rear. We had a few T-storms roll by all day and drop some serious rain and hail. The White rim is a pretty mellow trail but if it rains a ton it can get realllllly nasty very quickly. 4wd and aggressive tires were beyond required at that point. Put it this way, when my buddy and I reached the top of the Mineral Bottom Road we were VERY relieved. Dry = no worries. Fully saturated = hairy. We had flash floods and waterfalls blasting out everywhere. Impromptu full on flash flood river behind our camp at the top of Mineral Bottom road raged all night long and disappeared just as quickly around 9AM. Flash on Flash off. I can see how the road was destroyed a few seasons back. One Ranger we spoke to estimated that we got approx 2.25" of rain.
I was very impressed with the ST Maxx's ability to clear clay and mud and they reamin almost silent (compaired to my ST's) on the road and track straight. I was even more impressed that all 6 of my friends and co-workers hardened up and rode the whole trail regardless of weather.

We picked up a hitchhiker named Ryan along the White Rim. Ryan had taken a pretty nasty fall off his moto. He had a legit concusion and was unable to walk due to an unstable pelvis. We gave him a lift until we met up with the Feds. Hope you OK Ryan! This is a pic of my buddy Tom as we prepared to depart and catch up with our riders. It stated PUKING rain right after this until the next morning.
