drop bracket lift. Is that what the fab tech lifts are called? I’m guessing it had 3 ish before I added the spacer, there’s a couple inches of body lift too, that’s why it looks so high.

yeah a body lift won't effect your CV angles, but a 3" suspension lift is pushing it and when you added the spacers it went way beyond the limit.

A drop bracket lift retains the stock height for the front drivetrain, so your front diff and cv axles don't get effected at all. The downside to them though is that they aren't great for offroading - because the front diff stays at stock height you don't gain any actual clearance there. But otherwise it's a much better option for lifting above 3" that won't compromise the front drivetrain.

Another downside to drop brackets is that they are considered non-reversible since you have to cut and weld to install it. Technically you can reverse that but it won't be as easy as say removing a spacer or swapping springs.

How tall is your body lift? That's another bad conversation.

With that upside-down spring perch, I bet you have more than 3". But hard to know with not knowing what that blue coil spring is. If that was a lift spring (similar to the OME springs I mentioned earlier), then you easily had 4 or so. Remember, because of the IFS geometry, the wheel moves roughly 2x what teh shock does

Yep. Fab tech (and Rough Country) are drop bracket style lifts. Just about anything over 3", and all 6" lifts are drop brackets. Even the fabtech, though, isn't that great. It still uses a block lift and add-a-leafs in the back.

You said earlier it has blocks, are you talking about the body lift, or does the rear have a block lift on the leaf springs?

This is getting confusing, lol. Which is kinda why I suggest going back and starting over. Revert to "stock" and start over.

But one thing he's got going for him is the lack of a diff drop...

Looks like the spring is an old 5lug Tacoma Fabtech 3" lift spring.

That's like your wife and kids leaving you, losing the house, the wife's boyfriend moving in, and you having to pay spousal support.

The plus side being that you get to keep the dog that neither of you wanted, since he insists on shitting in the bed and barks uncontrollably when you turn on the tv to watch a movie or play your favorite video game.

You should throw in a abscessed tooth to that list for good measure.

It used to have blocks under broken leafs with upside down shocks. I “removed” the blocks, replaced the leafs with OME and flipped the shocks the right way. The OMEs haven’t sagged much in a few months so I tried adding extra 1 1/4 spacers in the front but that didn’t work so I left it parked and they’re getting removed when I get off work.

Throw some sand bags in the bed of the truck over the axle. It will help your leafs settle faster.

The truck also came with the light bar wire running through the door jam, 20” black and chrome rims with slicks, Straight piped with no exhaust, and 100 other ghetto things that I already fixed. I’ve replaced upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, rack and pinion bushings, wheel bearings, leaf springs, wheels and tires, repaired the giant hole cut around the shifter, sound deadened interior, fixed shitty wiring and installed a new stereo with subs, replaced about 20 missing bolts and screws, re wired light bar through windshield gasket and under hood, new exhaust, new calipers, drums, pads, fixed leaky undercarriage, cleaned MAFS and TBI and all kinds of other things. I tried installing the blocks while I was doing the cv axle because they were only 15 bucks and I figured why not, but that didn’t work so they are coming back out and I’ll eventually invest in a better front end lift and fix the shocks.

This thread is amazing and I have nothing productive to add to it.
