Best idea yet. I just installed a bedcover that sits too low (1/2" above bed rail) to use the factory rail cleats. These just solved my problem.

dremel of hand file the ridges. doesnt take much to make room for the washer to slide off. i spray painted the grind sections to protect from rust.

Take a large socket, One that fits over the bolt head and rests on the washer. One good whack with a hammer and the washer comes off.

We're all here to think of those things each of us can't think of. It's a happy place, no ball pit... but a happy place.

I've never seen the torque setting for these.
I set mine at 70 with some red loctite. Seemed like a good in-between number. Less and they might get loose over time, more and it might hurt the poly bed.

It was tricky though, had to put a long screwdriver through the D-ring and press against it with my foot while I used both hands to torque down the bolt (one to run the wrench, one to keep the torx from slipping out).

I have one. The thing is the balls, actually. I've doublechecked with one of the Craftsman spiiny-barrel style wrenches, and even at full torque it was only about 2lbs. off.

It would be easier to wake up the dogs and sled down , thats a long way east and south for me , I'm on the coast .

I would also need a few pack moose for my provisions , I'll pay the shipping so I can stay close to my trap line and igloo .:D

how does it work to get the bed bolts out? do you just unscrew them and they come out? are they screwed into the frame or is there a bolt on the underside i need to take off and put back on? also wtf is a torque wrench and are they hard to use?

Sorry but always wanted to do that,

Bed bolts come right out, there is a nut plate under the bed so no need to climb under the truck, reread the post or search further and you'll have a better idea to just how easy it is to do.

A torque wrench lets you tighten bolts to a certain pound.

Like for instance, hand tight might be 2 - 5 lbs....????

Thats not enough to hold anything...And if you crank on it with a ratchet untill it wont move anymore, it might end up being 150 lbs. And that would crush your washer or bed or break the threads...

So a torque wrench lets you set it to 60 - 70lbs and crank on it, once it hits that number, the wrench breaks loose and wont tighten anymore so you dont do damage and still get it tight enough so it wont back out.

Got my D-rings in the mail, they are olive drab color and the bed is black. Just wondering, did anyone spray paint the D-rings black before installing them?

I painted mine before I put them in. It is easier then makeing a mask to put around an already installed one.

I scuffed them up with some 220, then shot them with plain flat black paint. The still look good, even after having ropes tied to them.
