I just installed the 4 I received earlier in the week and was going to ask a similar question. I was thinking about matching the bolts to the d-rings. Anyone know what paint matches this after having done it?

ya i usually drive with the windows down no radio and the slider window open and they do make noise over speed bumps and off road. I rubber coated them and it cuts the noise down a lot.

rubber coating sounds like a good idea. I've had my 6 d-rings for a week now and still haven't installed them, I still don't have the torque wrench and now I need to go find some rubber coating... it never ends :)

Bought 2 of the big rings and 10 of the smaller rings from Army Surplus Warehouse. I'm going to put the 2 big ones at the front of the bed for hauling dirt bikes, 2 smaller ones on the middle bed bolts for misc, and I put 3 smaller ones under each side rail. I didn't put rings on the forward middle rail bolts (even though they fit fine) because they looked stupid hanging over the cubby holes:

I noticed that the back two bed bolts by the tailgate weren't long enough to hold the D-clips (as you can see in the first picture). Anyone else notice this? The other 4 bolts were long enough to handle it, but for whatever reason those back ones were just short by an inch or so

why are you saying you need a torque wrench for this? I have one but i hardly ever use it and have done hundreds of installs. use some blue thread locker and don't waist your money on a torque wrench if this is the most in depth install your going to do with it. i use my torque wrench for transmission jobs and wheel bearings, places where pre-load counts. just don't crack the bed. (im not responsible if you tear up your truck) use common since. and im ordering the d-hooks great find. thanks.

Since I have had my D-rings on for about a year, I would like to make a comment about durability. I bought both the Toyota OEM D-rings and the ones from Army Surplus. The one thing I notice the most about the cheaper Army Surplus rings is that they RUST!

The Toyota OEM rings do not have a spot of rust on them. The Army Surplus rings are covered in rust. And yes, I did spray them with Rustolium after I drilled the hole out. The problem is they style of 'hinge' they use. The ring sits in a tube that allows it to move back and fourth. As it moves, it rubs against the tube and chips away the paint. Then the rust sets in.

It's only been a year and I am not concerned about their strength just yet but 5 years from now, I may not trust my dirt bike tied to one. Should'a bought the OEM rings all the way around...

Hey thanks for your input!! I also bought 8 of the army surplus ones because of the price. I saw the OEM ones on TRDParts4U.com for $20 a set. I couldnt see myself spending $80 for 8 d rings so I spent like $32 for the surplus ones. I'll def keep my out on the rust issue though.;)
