Good luck on getting the rubber hose connected from inside the fender. Way easier to install it to the snorkel first then run hose thru the fender hole. Not sure skipping mounting it to the a pillar is a good idea. But then again I didn't put on that top nut. PIA

I would definitley not skip the a-pillar mounting step...even if you just use double side mounting tape, gotta use something or its going to rattle and wobble like crazy on the highway.

Been solid so far, I try to wiggle it every day & still solid. If it does start to come loose I’ll take more action, but so far so good

There’s a finger gap between it and the pillar. I’ll see how it fares on the highway soon.

I finally got another opportunity to install the rubber pipe. I beat that punch weld piece out of the way and just couldn’t get it on. Being 30* here didn’t help. So I microwaved it for a minute, lubed the ends with Dawns soap, and it slid right on. Tried that suction trick and cupped the end of it and apparently the seal on the factory end near the front is shot. Could hear air hissing by there. So I get to pull it in a few days to fix that somehow. Now to source all the plastic fasteners for the fender liner that broke off.

Even with the finger gap it’s pretty solid on the interstate with all three lower bolts installed. It shakes some on bumps but nothing serious.

On a side note, my 3rz seems to pull better on hills when at speed. The faster the better it does. Nothing spectacular but enough to notice.

So you don’t have the pillar piece attached right

I’d be nervous about causing some serious fender damage with the first tree I go under haha

That’d be why I’d attach it completely.

On the other hand, if you were to hit a tree or wall on a narrow trail (like I did recently) and destroy your fender, if the snorkel isnt attached to a-pillar then you'd have way less damage than if it was.

If I had hit the snorkel side of my truck last weekend I'd be looking at WAY more damage. Fenders are cheap and easy to replace, if you rip the snorkel off the a pillar or push the snorkel into it that's gonna suck

Fair enough, I don’t go nearly as hard as some of you guys do though.

Trees are pretty much my only worry I think.

Just pull the piece off the top when in the woods.

What happened to me last weekend was I got pulled into a rut and slid sideways into a wall of dirt...

    20190216_111714_HDR.jpg

If that had happened on the snorkel side it would have smashed the snorkel into the a pillar and I shudder to think of what kind of damage that might have done

Fortunately this incident only resulted in a new fender and mirror...and a lot of touch up paint

Yep, totally agree. Its a definite risk given how flimsy that a pillar really is. I posted this way back in the thread but check this out - this guy uses inserts on the a pillar to screw the snorkel in .vs rivets or self tapping screws/bolts. Notice how it appears he kind of dents the a pillar as he's smacking that insert into place... check it -

    https://youtu.be/ifPYNaoddsI?t=266

So a before snippet (from the video) -
    121.jpg

After a couple of smacks -
    1212.jpg

I know this because it happened to me as well  on the middle insert. Not that bad and once the bracket is in place, not visible at all but just knowing there is a tiny dent there.... :annoyed:

I went with the inserts because I wanted the bracket off of the a pillar and not sitting on it directly. Oh well, lesson learned. At least I siliconed those holes before putting in the inserts.

Point to putting this out there again - yeah, that a pillar is so pliable its scary. Not saying that the tube shouldn't be secured to it - personally, I think its a good idea to do so. It is how it was designed so there's that... hahaha

So basically try not to run into wall like I did, but if you do, make sure it happens on the non snorkel side lol.

Got mine installed 80%. Still need to hook up the tube inside and install the fender liner back with the fender trim. Here are a few pics.
