Out of curiosity. Has anyone attempted to tape over the water vent holes so that the hood acts like a ram air? For the fair weather highway driving.

TRD Off Road sticker. Not the whole package, just the sticker.
I haven't but I doubt it would have any noticeable gain in power. But i am curious. Try it and let us know.

I will first chance I get. May be a week before I can get out on the highway. Gonna be a busy one coming up.

I don't think it will do much and might cause more harm than good in terms of doing it permanently, but if you're just going to test it out during good weather I'd be curious to know if there's any noticeable difference.

According to ARB the snorkel has an air ram effect already even with the vent openings for water/dirt, which is why they don't recommend turning the head backwards over 40mph or something like that. I can't find the article on it but someone posted it in this thread awhile ago.

I don't have a way to check it, but I feel it's a little better on the hwy. But that could be because my air filter isn't always dirty like it used to be.

Haven't checked my mileage lately but my intake temps are way down from what they were. Even on the warmest days the intake temps have dropped 25 or more degrees. Depends on where I'm driving. Temps are lowest on long stretches of highway verses city. Either way my intake temps are down and that equals more power and better mileage.:burnrubber:

Just double checking. Mine should be here in a few days... I need a 3.5 inch hole saw correct?

No change in MPG for me. But as noted, intake temps are down. It also kinda works as an outside temperature sensor when paired with a scanguage, since my 2015 has that stupid as fuck HD radio weather app that sucks ass.

I used a 1/4” bit, then a step bit to its largest OD, then a pair of regular tin snips working in a spiral very carefully until I was on the sharpie mark made from using the template. Easy peasy. No $30 hole saw needed.

This held up to side winds and head winds on a 1000 mile trek across WTX with speeds up to a blistering 100mph.

My snorkel has that affect on my SG too. However I think it needs to be driven for a few minutes when it’s first started to get a closer reading.

You supercharged as well? I think that's the best thing hands down about the snorkel...lower intake temps. The supercharger brings it down considerably and every little bit helps since these things love to get heat soaked and cause pinging.
