It won't. There are already a couple threads about this. In official Toyota info they have stated a diesel will not come to North America because the cost will outweigh the benefits.

As much as I LOVE my 2015 Taco, I'd willing to trade it in if they offered either the 2.8 or 2.4 D-4D engines in the US market attached to a 4x4 DC with a proper 6 speed manual. But as others have mentioned, Toyota has no plans to bring a diesel mid-size truck to the US.

Nope and you can thank the EPA for that.

Give Toyota a couple of years to fiddle around with their diesel tech some more. I'm willing to bet that they may have a diesel engine for the 4th gen ten years from now. Who knows how much larger and more fuel efficient mid-size and full-size trucks will be by then.

I'm not a fan of the EPA, but in this particular case it's not 100% their fault, Toyota deserves some blame too. Toyota (as well has a good number of TW members) doesn't think there is a sufficient enough size US market/demand for a diesel mid size truck in the US. I personally think roughly 10-15% of Tacoma's would sell with a diesel engine if offered. Remember there were a lot of skeptics regarding the Ram 1500 and Jeep GC offering a diesel. Now the Eco-diesel makes up nearly 20% of the product mix for those two models. I really hope the GM twins sell well with the diesel, it might convince Toyota to offer one in 3-5 years, who knows.

Toyota has a Hydrogen Fuel Cell car going around shows this year. Maybe that will bolt onto a 6 speed manual?

Saw two of them at the Father's Day car show in Rodeo Drive. I only walked into the booth to see if they had a 16er taco

Not that it matters to much but GM has already announced the US specs for the 2.8 Duramax, 181, not 200.

If that 4 less hp means what much to you get the GM, I'm sure it will be decent. If given the option I rather have the max torque at a lower and broader rpm band.

Just goes to show, different strokes for different fokes, I would rather have the busty brunette, but I would never let her know that, I wouldn't want to ruin that low self esteem.
