Yep, I bought it to rack up miles and be reliable for the first couple years. Brand new P-metric Territory ATs aren't a bad all-arounder. I need to fully pay it off before any serious mods. I went nuts on my Xterra way too quickly and didn't even have a chance to install everything before trading it. Between now and then i can do lots a small things from a cosmetic standpoint. Modeling after your truck eventually with a clean, OEM plus look.
    Silver rear bumper caps
    De-badged and stickered.
    In-channel vent visors
    Sequential mirrors signals
    -Some 265/75/16s at some point.

120 to 12. Anything over 80ish percent efficient tends to be for telecom and thus huge money and on the order of 100A output or higher, for running tons and tons of rackmount gear. I just want to run some LEDs and slow charge some deep cells off grid power.

Had maybe my favorite interaction with a stranger ever today.
Picked up a work light at harbor freight cuz I’m a sucker for coupons.

this older gentleman with a Vietnam war vet hat comes up to me as I get back in my truck about to leave. Pointing to roll down the windows and I’m quite tired from skiing but figure eh see what this fella wants to talk about.

tells me he drives the other black Tacoma nearby and asks me about the bumper I recently installed, how cool it is and that the fog lights are really nifty.

hard not to smile the whole ride home.

    tldr; ultimate validation

We got the defiant. I knew it was too much stove but my wife thought a smaller stove would look stupid on the big hearth. All that wood should last much longer than 4 or five cords we got from trees we took down with this stove.

I decided that since it was finally sunny out and I was at 179,000 miles that today would be the day to finally change my Tcase and front diff fluid. The Tcase went smoothly and the original fluid was still amber color. The front diff fill plug came right off but the drain plug is on tight even with a piece of pipe on the ratchet. I didn’t want to risk breaking it. The fluid in there is pretty clean too so I just topped it off and will deal with it in the spring…or never. I am concerned about how rusty the metal connectors are on all the hoses and lines when I pulled the skid plates. I probably should think about replacing all of that soon before they start leaking. Fricken road salt destroys everything.

I don't think people frequently compliment others' vehicles and they get thrown off by it.

The other day an older guy near me was loading groceries into a bright red V70 R-Design. I told him I loved his car and always notice it when I see him driving around and he thought I was joking (what early 30s guy compliments a Volvo wagon). I told him no, I have always liked Volvos and the R-design wagons are pretty rare at this point. He lit up and told me he bought it new in 2010 and he loves how comfortable it is, and the color.

Volvos are cool and I've always wanted one of the older longbois but I have zero experience or expertise to know what's a good buy and what isn't. I did see a Corolla wagon posted by my sister, it IS TEMPTING to buy unseen.

I used to absolutely love eating up all the civics, celicas, gti’s, mustangs etc. back in the early aughts with my 850 T5 wagon. Back then, right after the original fast and furious came out, every 16 year old with a 4 banger, CAI, and coffee can exhaust thought they were Paul walker and drove like d*ckheads. Being gapped by a soccer moms car must’ve sucked.

I briefly had an XC70 that wasn't maintained very well. I bought it cheap and was going to fix it and keep it as a second vehicle. I put a lot of time into fixing the wiring to the rear hatch, replacing some sort of engine sensor that was causing a CEL, replacing a clicking CV axle, bad washer pump, brakes, then discovered the AWD didn't work. The whole Haldex AWD system was overly complicated and unreliable and I was not willing to play guessing games with expensive parts trying to get it to come back to life. I sold it and ended up breaking even on it.

The little bit that I drove it, I absolutely loved it though.

My first car was a 95 Maxima. It was an awful tan/gold color and looked like a run of the mill 4 door sedan on the outside. On the inside, it had cool white face gauges, but otherwise seemed very standard.

It was 190 HP, but only 3000 lbs so surprisingly quick - probably not the best car for a teenager. Gas mileage was also horrendous - I remember having a hard time breaking 20 MPG unless I was on the highway. Looking back now, it was rated at 18 city/26 highway.
