We used to use small bins for recycling each week at trash day. I'd usually have a few returnable bottles but didn't bother to take them to the store. My recycle stuff was ending up on the lawn and one day I found out why..an older fellow collecting cans would take the bottles from my bin, but in the process knock a lot of other stuff out of the bin and just leave it on my lawn. I was home from work the next week on trash day and saw him do it..walked outside and politely told him if you ever touch that bin you better put back in the bin what you don't take or we have a problem.

So yeah I don't have any real faith in people.

If there's something I don't want, and I don't think the trashmen will take it, I'll leave it on the curb. It usually disappears within a couple hours. I recently left a few lawn chairs out. A guy on an electric scooter came by and took them one by one.

Had 4-5 old OLD CRT TVs in the house in Maine when the family bought it many years ago. Put them out front, sign said "Free". They sat for a day. Nobody wanted that shenanigans.

I said "Hang on watch this". Took the sign down, put up a sign that said 15$ each.

    Gone in the morning.

I’d make an educated guess that was OOB.

Did they pay the $15 each or were they "stolen"?

I put out a 27" CRT about 10+ years ago. Even back then not many people wanted them. Took a few days to disappear.

Well it was a Sylvania. How many channels can a fancy lightbulb have?

Edit: I should be lucky someone took it, and that it wasn't used for target practice for people throwing rocks.

When my sister was getting ready to sell her house, she put a very nice chair that belonged to our mother out on the front lawn along with the trash. Next morning it was gone. She didn't think much of it until the morning after that. The chair was back on her lawn.

Scrap metal usually goes quickly, but you have to put it out before the scrap scavengers make their morning rounds or it will sit there until the next time they come by.

Guy up the street put out several old TVs. Someone stopped and got out with wire cutters, cut all the cords and took just that. He was not too thrilled when he caught the guy.

Depends on what you want to do, CRTs are always wanted by old school video gamers.

Apparently there's money in making devices to simulate CRT for you flat screen

I still have lots of CRT TVs at work - they're unfortunately quite expensive to recycle.

Fortunately the CRT monitors went away back when we could recycle them for free. Though there are a couple I've found since in weird places, like hooked up to an ancient computer in a mechanical space that used to run HVAC stuff.

Besides the scaling etc, if you have light gun video games they just outright don't work on a newer TV.

My uncle put out a lawnmower once. Free, still worked, he just had no use for it.

He came home to find someone dismantling the engine for some internal piece they needed. He was LIVID.

My uncle is an imposing guy, I'm fairly certain the guy took the mower, all the parts and went on his way.

Looks like the Corvette might be getting sold tomorrow. I have one guy coming to look at it and a second guy trying to jump the line promising full asking price. While it's mighty tempting to screw the first guy, my ethics won't allow it. However, having that offer might be enough to make everything work in my favor, we will see.

As an aside, I had quite the mulligan today doing yardwork. I'm pretty meticulous about fluid levels in my stuff, so I checked my lawn tractor level prior to starting and it was good to go. I mowed and then when I was using my leaf blower to clean off the tractor I noticed it was very wet. My yard was wet, so I thought maybe I managed to get some spray up into the frame.

Nope, I never re-secured the GD dipstick. It was spraying oil all over the engine bay the entire time I mowed. It's going to be a nightmare to clean, and I'm afraid what that's going to do to my lawn as I saw drips all over my driveway. It appears I lost just over half a quart as the oil was barely on the dipstick and a half quart put it right to where it was. I truly hope I didn't do any long term damage to the machine, but I feel like a moron.

Nice..here's hoping it's fast and full priced. It's sad you having those ethics stands out, as it means many don't. That all said it's not unethical to mention that you've had a full price offer already if there's haggling, that is treu.

Tractor will be fine I'm sure. Not sure what your oil capacity is, mine is 1.75 quarts. Last fall it had a small oil leak up above the front pulley and I was just trying to finish the leaves for the year. Right at the end of the task it started running slow. Turns out I had a puddle on the lawn where I had stopped it for 5 minutes. No oil registering on the stick. I quickly drove it in the garage and left cardboard down which was saturated in no time.

Brought it to the shop in February and while it was a decent bill as it needed other small stuff I was going to get to before it had to go in, zero engine issues re starting and performance. Mind you my 17.5HP Briggs/Stratton is 25 years old so I bet you'll be fine.

Re the lawn..the puddle I left didn't do any damage to the grass. I doubt you'll see any damage.
