    The EPA came up with this requirement about 20 years ago. You can buy better spouts that are marketed as being for water.

    Chiming in on the gas can discussion. I too like the old style cans, but I must say I also like the “No Spill” brand of new style cans. No spillage and pour pretty well. IMG_3584.jpg
