One of my pet peeves at work is unprepared presenters.

One appeared today with a 10-year-old MacBook with a mini DisplayPort connection and a VGA adapter for it. Every display we have now uses HDMI inputs, because it's the standard and has been for a long time. We let her use one of our loaner laptops.

I took her aside and said look, your laptop has video outputs that haven't been used widely in quite a few years. You're billing too much to show up unprepared, I strongly suggest that you buy a new laptop.

She looked like she saw a ghost, but I'm really sick of people going out to consult and billing thousands per day, but not investing in reasonably modern tech and making it into our problem.

"You mean you don't have the ability for me to present with my equipment on site? Well lets reschedule to next week and here is my bill for 4 hours for today's site visit" They probably sent a senior associate out there who is technologically illiterate and bills at the higher rate within the company ($$$).

One of the old timers at a previous firm I worked at loved to do that - he would also meeting a project to death. Every time there was a question that could of been handled through either an email or phone call, he would set up a site meeting with the client and bill a minimum of 4 hours. Loved when it came time to the monthly billings and seeing my budget shot before any plans even started rolling out the door.

Yeah but I'm jealous of you guys. I was too young to see or really even know who Led Zepplin was when they were together.
Also I was to young to enjoy the fashions of the 70's and too old to enjoy them in the 2000's. Do you know how bad I hated the high waist jeans and almost turtle neck blouses of the 80's???

BTW, the waist high jeans are back again and I hate them as much as I ever did!

    Thanks Rob

Mine has a piece you slide on the nozzle, perhaps the button one works better. The lack of venting makes it slosh a lot, even when it's mostly empty.

That's pretty silly. I have a 10 yr old laptop that I used for the second job and even that has HDMI, not to mention mine is about $300 when it was new. That said I wasn't doing that kind of work with it either, just data entry for the most part on a couple of websites and the occasional document or spreadsheet.

Tech illiterate can happen but that's not an acceptable excuse at that level. Learn it.

Yup, a contractor wouldn't show up with just a Phillips bit then act blindsided when he encounters Torx and ask you to loan him the bit.
