I'm a heathen. I just got the cheapest TV BJs had to offer :D

Same over here. Forecast was calling for dumping rains this afternoon but we were able to get a ride in instead.

I think it's calling for rain overnight now though.

    I'm a warm weather person.
But, even I'm ready for a little break.
The equipment isn't designed for these conditions here. Everything is running outside its design envelope, and is suffering.

For the record, these Temps and humidity is what it is like back home.
Don't get me wrong, I'll take this all day, everyday over winter.
Still getting the crap kicked out of me. Engine rooms are hot. Today's was 115f. Cranking like this for 12+ hours a day...
    Ugh, I'm getting old.

We're supposed to get rain in central Texas all next week, but we'll see. I was out of town down on the coast Wednesday afternoon until last night. My wife said we got a lot of rain early Thursday, even though none was forecast. A friend told me that a small city about half an hour away got 3 1/2 inches in under two hours. Which was odd as I drove through that earlier in the afternoon on my way home and again there was nothing to indicate it was going to rain.

Life is diffferent on the edge of the Great Plains. Weather can be very volatile. Too far inland to get much out of hurricanes, and a bit south to get serious tornado risk. Still, we get weather here. Which is why we have a whole house generator.

If the rain actually comes next week, it will drop the temperatures to the mid 70s from the 100 or so it is now. What you folks are experiencing up there is what is considered a normal summer in central Texas.

How’s the humidity where you are? I was in Utah and Nevada a couple weeks ago and it was hot as hell 80’s up to 122 degrees but the lack of humidity made it not too bad. Coming back to MA where it was 90 degrees with high humidity sucks. Also if any of you haven’t been to Moab yet you have to go. It’s the coolest town I’ve ever been too. I drove Hell’s Revenge and Fins and Things in a side by side and it was insane.

The humidity is driven by the dew point. If the dew point is over 60 degrees, it's miserable. So, it's generally miserable right now. It won't be totally dark until close to 9:00PM and it will cool off a bit.

The trick around here is to get up early and get outside work done if possible. I've changed my bike ride time from late afternoon to first thing in the morning.

Since we've only been here since early November, my body is still adjusting. I'm learning how to find shady parking areas, always wear a hat, sunglasses, and drink a lot of water. Dehydration can be a killing if you're not careful.

Still, it's better than winter and snow. I don't have to shovel the humidity. ;)

This, plus the heat doesn't freeze your pipes in the house I reckon..

The heat doesn't but it does sometimes get cold enough in the winter to freeze pipes. No basements, so the pipes come out through the wall. I had one freeze up last winter, but I read up on it and let it just thaw itself out.

You can buy styrofoam covers to put over the faucets, they even make heated ones. And of course you can just open it enough to let a trickle of water out and prevent freezing.

Houses, at least where we are, are not set up for winter.

The positive side of that is while we need really good AC, we can use a heat pump for heat. We bought a new system and had it installed. Doing great during summer and it should be good enough for 99% of the days this winter. We got the "emergency" heater strips. Those are really just electric baseboards built into the system. If it gets cold enough, we just turn them on.

If the roads ice up, everyone stays home.

I wish more people up here would do that...cause they can't drive for shit in the winter even though they've lived here their entire life.

I remember a few years ago when TX got a cold snap and so many people's pipes busted. Mostly for irrigation systems.

I had the electric 'boards in my breezeway when I moved in here, a radiant heat but helps when I'm out there in the cold months.

Every year the first snow storm was like people had just moved here from Hawaii and never driven in snow before. It was a clown show. And of course the people who refused to get snow tires because they had "all season" tires.

That was 2021. My daughter was down here and her apartment building had no water because a pipe burst. Then they had cold water, but no hot water because the boiler feed burst. It was a mess.

They've hardened some things since then, but if it gets below about 20 degrees, people start running their faucets at the far points of their houses to keep the pipes from freezing. We have to tanks for the water softener in the garage. That was installed on the coldest day of the winter and the plumber suggested I wrap them in blankets just in case. I also had a nice radiant heater I bought up in MA at Costco. I turned that on and kept it far enough away not to set the blankets on fire, but close enough to heat the tanks. After that, I bought "real" insulating blankets on Amazon and the tanks are permanently wrapped now.

The other issue, at least on coastal bend, is the pipes either run in the attic, or below the house in a crawl space.
I believe there was a freeze this past winter in Corpus as well. Not as bad as 21 though....

The flood sure isn't affecting the terrorist traffic up here and I'm sure the businesses able to operate are appreciative.
