I'm the opposite of many of you - I'd be more likely to go north, very unlikely to go south. I like where I am, but could see myself in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia if it weren't so difficult and expensive to move there.

I agree on Pecco's confidence. He can't seem to stay out front then he loses additional places late in the race.

As much as I like Millinocket and the surrounding area for the mountains, I don't think I could live there. It's such a shell of its former self - driving down Penobscot Ave or Katahdin Ave is so depressing with the run down vacant buildings.

My family has a cabin in Eustis, I could be from Rangeley to Coburn Gore, to Moose Head Lake area and be good. I think Kingfield has a machine shop, Farmington is the biggest place around that area. (Where Noel is from)

Agree. Property taxes are higher there, than here. Electricity is more. Insurance is higher, and medical is more expensive.
However, access to fresh produce is better. Food is cheaper.
Access to medical is MUCH better.
Pay is lower overall(not a factor for you I think), though the last job offer I got was MORE, just, wasn't the right time.
I've moved back and forth a few times.
Overall, it IS cheaper to live in Texas.

Facts. Ran Pirelli PZeros on the Charger.

I've been through that area a few times - that's definitely better than Millinocket. They were so reliant on the paper industry - understandably given they border the NMW - then the mills closed.

My wife and I would like to buy a small house or cabin in ME, NH, or VT some day once our house is paid off. Far enough to be a destination, close enough to be able to run up and back in a day if I need to.

Electric is cheaper and you can shop around for it. A big part of the reason it's cheaper is that there are not all of the taxes disguised as "fees" on the electric bill. Our June bill was $176.72. That was with the AC running almost constantly.

    Break down as follows,

    Electricity charge $108.58
    Delivery charge from Oncor $56.79
    Customer charges $4.23
    Sale tax $3.46
    Gross Receipts Reimbursement $3.38
    TX PUC Assessment $0.28

During the winter that drops to just under $100.00 per month.
Since it's a heat pump, we use it for heat as well as AC. No longer have to pay propane to heat the house.

Food is mostly cheaper as well.

Since we're both on Medicare with a really good supplement, medical is a wash for us.

We also get the Homestead and Over 65 Property Tax exemptions, which the legislature effectively doubled effective Jan. 1.

Car registration is much more expensive and only good for one year.
Driver's License is $33.00 and good for eight years.

Idk why they all don't come up but the one in Warner, NH is almost 5 hours away. The market basket on the Hooksett/Manchester line is 4.5 hours away

We are 1:15 away from the one in Keene (maybe technically Swanzey).

I think Western MA/Southern VT/NY Capital Region have the worst selection of grocery stores. The only two within 15 minutes from me are Stop & Shop and Big Y. The Big Y is small so selection isn't great and it isn't super practical to do a full shopping trip, though they do have a decent selection of unique/local things. The Stop & Shop is normal sized, but very mediocre.

Next closest are all in Vermont - 25-35 minutes depending on direction. There's a small run down Shaws, a Hannaford, a Market 32, and an Aldi. Hannaford is like a marginally better Stop & Shop. Market 32 is like a sad imitation of Wegmans (Wegmans is by far my favorite grocery store, but the closest are 2+ hours away). Going further south into MA just gets me bigger versions of most of the same stores.
