 thanks for the heads up!

I did more research. The BZ4X from Toyota and the Ioniq5 from hyundai are the only ones out there with a solar roof, and it's only in some European markets. So I would have to rig up a charger on the house, and do solar on the house, etc etc. Which I'm not against, but I am for the sole purpose of driving to and from work that's 1.5mi each way. I'm more likely to just get a dinky Fiat 500e or Smart FourTwo electric and run it from a normal outlet in the garage than to deal with all that.

But hey that's not a terrible idea to lease, I'll have to toy that idea around a bit and see what pops out.

I was penniless at almost 29. It can be done..but yes, 33 and that far on the mortgage is good work!

Totally agree re the tables. My folks are good in terms of money..better than most anyone.

I learned on the Apple IIE how to program..haha. Gen X here (51)

I recently told someone I have a laptop, tablet, and phone..they laughed and asked why.

While no urgency if you other debt, I'd at least make one extra mortgage payment per year. That's pretty easy to do and it chops years off the total..why pay the bank?

Bring a long extension cord with you to work and plug it into a 110V outlet. That would give you plenty of juice for your 3 mile round trip. :)

I'm 32, I learned Fortran in college. Nobody knows Fortran anymore, the last of the guys who knew it are past retirement into dead. I was the FIRST year at UMaine that allowed C++ to be an alternative language to Fortran. No punch cards, at least.

Same. I use the table for books and cookbooks,

At 2.625%, I am not stuck with my mortgage. The BANK is stuck with ME, until and unless rates go below 2.6%.

    https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FEDFUNDS

Outside of 2008-2016 after the recession, and then the drop during the 'vid, going back to the 1950s, we're at about the "steady" norm right now, MAYBE a smidge high, but we probably won't be back down to the 2s again in our lifetime. Not to be a dick and "i got mine and pull up the ladder", but godwilling, we aren't down to the 2s again. The last two times have been a many-year recession, and a global pandemic to bring that on....

1 extra payment per year drops like 7 years off of a 30 year mortgage.

    Don't tempt me! :D

I laughed when I explained to my nephew a few years ago (he's 22 now) about computers having a floppy disk drive. He laughed at first and said there's no such thing, then thought I meant CD Rom..then said "oh I've seen one of those, the 3 inch?". I then explained the 5 something inch disks and he was flabbergasted.

I learned at a summer camp on the Apple IIE as a kid though we never had a home machine, didn't have one in my house till 29 and that was moving in with the girlfriend who had one. I do remember the Napster/Limewire/etc but never used it.

Perhaps but you're in, that's the big thing. It was expensive to get in when I did as well in 2004 but over time it's made much sense, though it began to pretty quickly for a few reasons. Now I am mortgage free which is part of my cracking the millionaire's club.

I learned Basic and dabbled in a couple of others as a kid, I remember Fortran but I forget if that was one I was really exposed to. I recall Pascal being another.

My kitchen table yikes, couldn't tell you the last time we sat down and ate a meal together there. My books are in the weight room..or the couple I'm presently doing on my rolling workstation with the laptops and tablet.

I remember when 10 pct wasn't terribly outrageous for a rate.

That it does..but now think about what a double principal payment does..per month. Giggle. Did I mention I'm debt free?

It's a double edge sword. Would be great to pay this thing off and not have to worry about it.
But also, paying it off is dumb.

    https://www.niofe.org/prepayorinvestcalculator

Can do math or have math done for you.

Typically anything under 3% it makes way more sense to invest instead of pay it down. But human element in wanting to be debt free is a big factor too, and if that's your jam, yee haw.

70 something character line limit because of punch cards back in the day. I've learned some others since then, now I just kind of know how programming logic works and make things do things as needed. SQL, Python, C++, VBA, R, just depends what I'm trying to get out of it.

I know enough about C that I can sometimes modify something for my needs, but I'm far from being able to write my own program. I might still have some QBasic programs I've done on a floppy disc somewhere... If I had the patience to learn something new, maybe I'd get into Python or Rust

Dam it’s been along time since I thought about those apple IIes, or the first Mac and programming buttons.

Mortgage is 3%, savings is 3.6%, so it's slightly more of an advantage for me to leave that extra payment in savings at the moment.

Plus, because it's a biweekly mortgage, I make 26 payments per year, which basically ends up being one extra payment over a monthly and why it's really a 13-ish year mortgage instead of a 15.
