Mike I usually do what chris said take a long screw driver and put the handle to your ear with the tip on the pulley (stationary part) you want to check.

Cam like we all said nice job on the bumper. You should be proud of your work, takeing a piece of flat staock and creating a functional piece

Just went out to try that and I'm not sure it'll work. I'll try it again when I have more time and can take the radiator shroud off. There's a lot in the way so it's tough to get a piece of metal on the end and get your ear down to it. I was just looking at the pulleys with a flashlight to try and see if any of them have a slight wobble. I think it's the top idler pulley but it's tough to tell visually. I think I'm going to have to buy them all, get the serpentine belt off, replace them all and see which one was really the culprit, toss that one and keep the others as spares.

Another option is spray them one at a time with pen oil and see if noise goes away. Also you can hit the belt (the outside area not the traction side) with a light sand paper while running to be sure the belt isnt sqealing from being glazed.

Hmmm... I was wondering if getting penetrating oil on the belt would be detrimental to performance. I'll give that a try. The belt doesn't look like it's got a glaze to it, would it visually look glazed?

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Don't get any oil on the belt, it'll ruin the belt. Pull the serp and check all the pulleys for play. That's the quickest way to start.

You dont have to go crazy with the spray but this is why it is not the best way and it may ar may not look glazed. I just lightly hit it while running to break any glaze. If you do the pullies like John said you might as well do the belt. I had good luch with the Goodyear Gatorback on my last truck

Meet and eat was a lot of fun everyone! Great food, better company! (Still mad about the built in gratuity though. They didn't list that anywhere on the menu like you are supposed to).

Great to see the regulars and the new members

Or any long piece of metal, although a pry bar will be a good one if you can't fit a long screwdriver and have enough room up top..

Good to know. I'll just wait til I have new pulleys and a belt here before I mess with it. I know one of them is bad so spending a lot of time troubleshooting which one is sort of pointless. After giving it some thought, I'm not going to replace just one of them anyways, I'll replace them all because I know if I don't, one of the other ones will go out shortly afterwards.
