I read that thread on the locks and it seems silly that toyota doesn't address this issue

Yeah, you're right, all I talk about is how great my Chevy was...

 

I thought I had it fixed, they worked again for about a year but just quit on me again. The fix isn't bad to save the $225 for the replacement part but still takes a fair amount of time and certainly a few choice 4 letter words due to the procedure.

 

What's wrong with the locks? Mine only whine a little when it's below freezing outside.

From what I read even if you go with the new parts it is still going to happen

 

Many people have had their auto locks stop working. The manual function still works since it's cable operated but the motor within the lock assembly gets gunked up and can no longer cycle the lock. The DIY fix is to take the actuator out of the door, tear it apart, tear the electric motor itself apart and clean it out really well and reassemble. The dealership's fix is to simple replace the whole actuator to the tune of about $225/door for just the part.

I tried finding just a new motor for the actuator but have not been successful. I took the number off the motor and actually bought a couple with the same number online (for about $2/ea) but the motor output shaft is different. I can find the exact same motor, but not one with the same output shaft to accept the screw gear.

 

My forum experience is fine. We were taking about your truck when you told me to take my lips off Toyota's cock...

Oh, don't mind me, my truck is a POS so I'm trading it for a Chevy.

 

Well crap. But mine are 5 years old and still working good. Hopefully they always work that way.

 

Hopefully they stay that way! The worst part is when they start to fail and you don't catch it. I had a few days when I walked away from the truck, hit the lock button, came back and the door was unlocked. Figured I just forgot to lock it. Did that for a few days and finally realized what was going on

 

Only one way to solve this....whip em out....
