OH Crap ! Not again !!!!! Bought My first Tacoma at Newport . Stack of frames is not a good sign. I know a guy with a Tundra that had a frame exchange. His truck was in the shop forever . We all have to keep our eyes open on this one. NOT GOOD .

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
The emperor is more than welcome to replace my frame whenever he wants :D

They did my brothers '01-02 Tundra and it was a brand new truck all over again. If they want to do mine in a few years I am more than happy to oblige. It'll help me get 15-20 years out of it.

    Haha, my bad.

I think they are all on their way back now or soonish. It's like a 7 hour drive back to MA for them.

If they were to replace a frame, do they go by the vin? And is it regional? This truck was originally purchased by a Naval officer down in northern Virginia, and was traded in here locally while he was here teaching at the naval war college. I am thinking if they do do a frame warranty I might never be covered due to being purchased outside NE. even though it has service records in Toyota's system in NE(Tarbox)within the first year of trucks service.
Anyone know how Toyota handled it on the First gens?
    Thanks

My 96 was bought back by Toyota in 2009 . I know two other guys that went through this before I did. We were sent forms from Toyota telling us to go to the Dealer & have our frames tested. Ice pics & hammers were used. All three of us went to the Dartmouth dealership. They had a back lot full of first generation Tacos that were returned. I know that this was a national problem. My Truck was assembled in Fremont, Calif. This was not a New England thing .My truck was 13 years old , NO BODY rust at all . Every year I would wire brush & paint any rust on the outside of the frame ,welds. The rust was on the inside of the frame & you just couldn't see it from the outside. I would think Toyota did a national recall not a regional one . Hell ,I didn't want to shell out thousands for a new truck when I was very happy with the one that I owned. They gave us a good chunk of cash for the old trucks ,but you still had to make up the balance $$$$

My wife's 96 was bought back in 2008, she was one of the first. They had begun mailing letters to owners of 95.5-00 a week prior when she brought hers in for service and they first did the frame inspection which she failed.

My understanding is everyone in those years got a letter no matter where they lived or where the truck was first purchased. She bought hers used so I'm not sure where it started its life prior to her buying it in 01 or 02. While it wasn't as common in warmer climates, I have heard of it happening there as well.

Seriously ???? have you seen the way he drives that "submarine"....that frame has been "tested".....

Was at a Meet & Greet yesterday and talked to an owner of a 2nd Gen 4-Runner who has heard NOTHING of any recalls; the only difference between his frame and mine.....coil buckets out back where I have leafs...

And that is where my frame was "bad"...

Alex, be SAFE driving home :)....

If you need a new frame just let them do it they'll put your lift back and everything else you've done.. Seth, Miguel, Snoope and myself are all re-framed and no issues. I'm not dure about Fran. There is an option to have the frame coated the PO of my truck had that done as-well. With the new frame on the 1st gens the spare tire carrier was the updated unit and you are exempt from the recall (so i was told Friday). One of my buddies just had his 02 done with a hole the size of a soft ball on the right rear leaf hanger in the front of the rear tire. His truck is lifted identical to mine and they re-installed his lift, here are some pics. Cant wait to get my new truck back lol

    Stuff

Mines pretty good, though it was only re-framed last June. Still has the factory coating. Going to coat the frame myself this summer so it stays that way. My year old brand new Toyota springs on the other hand....saggy and rusting already.

Yes, sucks DANA F!@#$%^ up and sold Toyota some bad steel bent into frames...

Sequoias are the same frame as Tundras if I am not mistaken and what started as a spare tire/rear cross member repair has turned into another frame "Campaign"....Select few and total Toyota discretion on who gets what...it will NOT be another Tacoma "Campaign"..

4-Runner folks are really going to be "pushing up hill" to get any "Campaign" started considering their 1st Gen 2 doors quickly went the way of Pre-Tacos frame wise....and nothing has changed...SORRY...
