Worst about needing a new fridge, is that I'm on the 3rd floor.

Look on the inside of the fridge, there should be a sticker there that has the manufacture date. If it's within 10 years and is a Kenmore, you can always do what I did and get that warranty thing so they'll fix it. They were a complete pain in the ass to deal with but they did get my fridge fixed.

If you're trying to save yourself from buying a new fridge, google how to trouble shoot a fridge. It'll walk you through some simple steps so you can figure out if it's something stupid like a thermostat or something more major like a compressor. If you can pull it out, see if the coils on the back are hot (all of the coils should be warm, if just the first vertical run is warm and the rest are not, then you have a compressor issue or low refrigerant).

The bonus is you'll have a far more energy efficient appliance.

 

Gonna have to do something, new or used, this one won't last much longer. Noticed it uses the R12 stuff, which you can't get anymore anyways. So if it needs to be charged (like a car I guess?), I'm out of luck.

 

My advise would be, if it still runs, sell it on craigslist CHEAP. Someone will pick it up as a beer fridge and it will save you from having to get rid of it.

You do charge a fridge like a car but it's not as simple. They don't have the readily available ports like a car's system, you'd need a refrigeration guy to do it for you.

 

I only paid $50 for it several years ago. I'm not looking to buy any new/expensive appliances until I have a house. Looks like I'll be fridge hunting this weekend.

 

If you're going to buy new, last weekend would have been the time to do it, otherwise wait until Black Friday if you can. If you go through Home Depot, try to find one of those Lowes 10% off coupons (you can buy them on Ebay and HD honors Lowes' coupons and same with Lowes and HD coupons I believe).
