Rob, I saw a SICK Polaris truck and trailer on the highway on my way home. Guess they were heading home from the show.

Truck rides and drives like new. All speeds, no vibrations. Should have done this 10k miles ago. I will say that MOOG's quality control sucks major donkey balls. I ordered 3 u-joints, was going to replace all of them while the drive shaft was out even though I only NEEDED to pull one of them to get the carrier off. Tried replacing the one and the u-joint was so tight, it wouldn't even twist. We took it apart and reassembled it 3 times, wouldn't budge once it was installed. Tried another of the new ones, worked fine. Based on that, we didn't bother replacing the other 2 (they were still fine so no real need to replace them anyways, was just going to do it while the shaft was out of the truck). Oh well, new CSB, greased the slip yoke (although I'm not really convinced that did anything) and one new u-joint and the truck drives like it's brand new. Got my new trailer wiring done and new headlights. Still no heated mirrors though :(

NH Mike, was your slip yoke blue, like it was coated with something? I did apply spindle grease to mine but it moved pretty freely even before that. Whatever it was coated with was pretty slick.

So, what was wrong with Moog's ? Sounds like all worked fine ?

One of the u-joints didn't fit! There shouldn't be that much variance within the same part number. One didn't fit, used another of the new ones in the same joint and it fit like the stock one. Only explanation I can think of is construction tolerances of the Moog joints exceed that which is actually allowed by the Spicer drive shaft used by Toyota.

I can relate to the house buying - damn expensive! Haven't really done anything to the truck since buying the house.

I had the same problem when doing mine. That is why I returned them and went to the dealership and bought them. The dealrship ones are made by Spicer.

That sucks. What are you gonna do, try the solid chevy mod?

I called Rock Auto this morning and told them what happened. They're going to give me a credit for the one u-joint that didn't fit. When the other 2 actually need replacing, I'll go Spicer like you mentioned.

As for the carrier, I have to order another one, get it installed and send the old part back and I'll get a refund for the part. People seem to have had decent luck with the Dorman bearing so I'll give it another shot. It seemed loose and well lubricated when I got it. We rolled it by hand and it seemed fine. Just sucks because I'll have to do this one on my own. My dad has a nice big garage to work in and a great vice for u-joints. I'm going to rent the press i did last time for the lca bushings and hopefully I can press them out with that. The Chevy mod looks great but I don't want to get into fabbing a mount for that bearing, I need direct bolt in.

Retrofits are gone. It's bitter sweet. I'm happy they sold but sad I don't have them any longer. Kevin will have some nice lights though!

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Must be a theme for the long weekend... Our fridge died overnight. Good thing we hadn't put away the 5 day cooler just yet!
