I don't believe you can just "get fired" in MA anyways. Isn't that the whole "right to work" bull shit?

They have a deal right now. 20% off private lessons if you book before december 20th. You can have up to 12 people and it gets cheaper the more people you have. I would be down to do it again if we can get a decent size group. Maybe i will email them and see if they have a location around here to do a more advanced course.

Hadlyme CT. There was some good obstacles there, it was mostly man made stuff all packed into a few acres in the woods, but i know they have better spots by looking at their pictures online.

I'm guessing it had something to do with the results of the World Series opener.

Hell no. In my opinion, the best thing for a hangover is old fashioned V8 and a greasy breakfast.

No, right to work describes the relationship between an employer and the unions. Doesn't protect a worker from being canned.

Even though it can be tough to fire a union guy, if one of them isn't performing or fucking around, we can throw them off of a particular project which means they could end up sitting on the bench waiting for something else to come up. As a GC, we don't have to fire anyone to make them no longer our problem.

You just have to give them exactly what they want... Paid for doing nothing. Right to work gives non union employees the same benefits as union employees, and they don't have to pay for it.

About $400 a week. I lived at home and had no real expenses but for my car insurance.

I'm pretty sure if there are any non-union employees working for a union company, they still have to pay into the system. They still have to pay the equivilent of what their dues would be, at least that's how it worked when I worked for the NYS public employee's union. They told us when we all got hired that we didn't have to join the union but they were going to take 3% of our pay regardless. I think right to work just means the employer just has to offer the same benefits to a non-union employee as a union employee.

All that being said, I can't imagine that happens too often. Any mention of non-union personnel on a union job site usually starts a pretty decent shitstorm.

No, in right to work states employees do not pay union dues if they are not part of the union. However, if the union negotiates a 3% raise for one year with the employer, right to work states have to also give that raise to employees who are not part of the union as they are entitled to everything the union is. Including attorneys when they fuck up, etc. But they don't have to pay, or work for those benefits.

And yes, it's a shitstorm when one employee doesn't opt into the union.

Alright, I see what you're saying now. I guess I mis-interpreted. I don't think i've come across a non-union guy working for the same employer as a union guy yet though. Closest I can think of is some union companies have non-union shops so I guess that's where it'd apply.

We had one... It's more common than you'd think. They get a bad stereotype for running their mouth to admin about what the union talks about.

We haven't encountered this, knock on wood, but our NEPBA union rep tells stories...

Not that it is any of your business but I was out for the game with some of the old timers that trained me when I first started this job. It was after work and yes a Wednesday so fucking what. We are not the stereotypical union with people doing nothing and getting paid. We don't have seniority so if you want to stay working you will work hard. The days of having a drink at lunch are gone, especially in the service side. I walk into a building after have one beer and the customer smells it, I might as well of had a 30 pack. We can be fired after three written letters of complaint but we can be laid off any time they want

Actually, I fibbed. One of my jobs then was at Shaw's and they were union. I got a talking-to once on a day that I had a horrific hangover and probably reeked of beer as well..ugh. All I would say is "if I'm not in the condition to be here, I should be sent home then"..knowing they wouldn't do it.

Myself, I wasn't saying that to elbow you about being union Billy..
