Shrug. Common or not, it does happen. Just because you don't see it where you work doesn't mean it doesn't happen other places. If that were the case, we wouldn't need Unions in the first place, would we? I'm simply saying, there's more than one facet to everything. People who don't want to pay union dues because they opted out of the union aren't necessarily freeloaders, just as union employees aren't all lazy bastards looking for a free ride. But both are popular perceptions.

If I'm coming across as anti-union to you, then I apologize for not articulating my position better. I think unions serve a very good purpose in our society, as they help to raise the bar for a lot of employees. If I got hired at a union shop, it's likely that I'd join said union. However, they're not the right fit for everybody, and I think that people should be able to choose for themselves.
While it's absolutely true that employees negotiating better terms for themselves without a Union assist is rare, what's far less rare is employees who aren't members of a union still being required to pay union dues.

I have to pay social security tax in my paychecks. It's not likely I'll ever be able to use social security, since at the rate it's going by the time I retire it won't exist any longer. If I could opt out I would, and I'd put the money into a private retirement fund instead. However, since I can't opt out, I'm being charged for something that I'm probably never going to be able to use, even though it may benefit me in some indirect way.
I view mandatory union dues for non-union members working in a union shop in much the same way.

On the fire department these individuals are called Rats..They are not tolerated ...but all are members on my job. My dept. has never had a guy wanted to opt out. I could spend a lot of time on this subject here but i hate typing. Lots of related topics. I was on the executive board on my dept for ten years and was the chair for three of them. The e board was comprise of five members. Same as a shop steward.

In my opinion, it should be part of high school corriculum ( bad spelling, i know ) Everyone should be educated on how unions came to be and why. In Woonsocket, RI there's a labor museum that's really cool and any union member should visit and check it out.

same way it is at the PD, but we dont have anyone who's not a part of it, so we cant not tolerate them, or call them names. I'm sure though, that if someone did, it would depend on what they were doing, and what kind of person they were.

Anyone here replace a rear spring bushing?

I thought I had a squeaky leaf at first, but after some troubleshooting, my passenger side front leaf bushing is squeaking and driving me nuts.

My guess is its a rubber bushing to replace, but is there any bushing bolt with a grease fitting?

How many members on your job ? Are you a police officer or correctional officer ? What's your local number. Just curious, we have 90 members and we are IAFF L 1950

hmm.. it shouldnt be too hard if everything isnt corroded... you will just have to find out where to get a new rubber bushing, and be FUCKING CAREFUL when you jack the truck up to work on that.
