    Tell me about it!

It's amazing how good you can do when you live in an apartment and how fast that changes when you move into a house. My modding addiction has gone almost completely away! (and I remember rolling pennies in college to buy parts for my first car!)

I either need to go wheeling or snowboarding soon or else i am going to lose my mind, this is the first night this week i ate dinner before 10pm. Getting some fab time in at cams shop this weekend should help me keep me sanity. :frusty:

Nonsense, I've got my own home and I still have a money tree.
I've just got a jar titled "mortgage payments" with a funnel in it that catches pretty much everything the tree drops...

    yeah...
We just bought this house last fall, too, so we're still at that frustrating stage where you look at the monthly bill and it says
    Amount applied to Principle: $162
    Amount applied to Interest: $281

Worth it, though. I'd rather own than rent any day of the week. None of my apartments ever had a garage, or a big front yard for a garden. Or wood heat. Or landlords that let me rip things out and change them to suit what I wanted...the list goes on.

Trust me I know. We've only been in our house for 3 years. Our statements aren't much different

At least you guys have someplace to call your own. Rent is stupid expensive around here. I do live in a nice town on the shoreline and a great location, but i can go 15 miles north and a mortgage plus taxes in the same size house would be cheaper than my rent now. Its my first place with the girlfriend, and her first time renting so we wanted a nice place with a yard for the dog. I cant wait to own a house, unfortunately it will probably be another few years.

Start banking that cash . The sooner you do it the happier you will be . I wish I didn't wait as long as I did. I rented for a good 10years . Just the last 4 years of renting I threw away about 50k in rent.

I might be looking for a house soon. I want to get one that's not in RI though. At least for now I don't have to do yard work or fix anything that's broken.

A mortgage on a 3 bedroom 2 bath with a 2 car garage and an acre+ in AZ is less than renting a 1 bed 1 bath apartment in a shitty town in MA

Salaries will also be less to reflect that... I got a 20% increase in salary when I moved from Richmond to Boston, it all went toward higher car insurance, more expensive rent and everything else that's just generally more expensive. You really need to be informed and not make statements like that. You can buy a $50k house in the mid west that would be a $400k house out here, it's all relative.

This is true. We rented for a couple years, bounced around a little bit. We realized early on that we could buy a place for what we were paying for rent and build equity rather than just pissing money down the drain every month. But we wanted to wait until we'd been living together for a few years to make sure it would work before we jumped into a mortgage together. Apartment leases are a lot easier to break than a mortgage is, haha!
