It would be a lot cheaper to just install a locker in your axle . Plus yours is stronger then the off-road .

Obviously ARB is a solution but is the detroit or truetrac even worth a consideration? I was looking at ECGS for the 3rd swap with an ARB and the compressor but it is $1740.

That list you linked shows a elocker 20 miles from me with 15k miles more then mine with a 6 month warranty for $1250. Another $150 in supplies switches wires etc. puts you around $1400

Is the ARB that much better?

The reason I am looking is I had a quote for $3150 (dealer) to correct my LSD that is not working but being just an open dif. I changed the fluids in the rear end and added the LSD modifier a few time the last 15k miles and it seems to be working as of last weekend. But it is hit or miss.

John is right in that you can get a aftermarket locker that is much cheaper, there are a lot of other options than the ARB.. You can also do an ARB for less than that and it's not the fact that the ARB is better but the whole axle is stronger. You have a 8.4" instead of a 8.0" with the factory locker. Look and read into other options more. If you still want it I'll see if there is anything I can do.

The ARB was good, i had a bad compressor which ARB replaced no problem and it worked great once that issue was resolved and the on board air was nice.
if i had to do it again i'd go cheaper,i'm going with the Detroit in the trail rig, i was going to do the lunchbox locker but am waiting to get the Detroit.

I think there is another company that also makes an air locker you could look at. Ecgs stocks them, just can't remember if the top of my head

Another thing to keep in mind about buying a whole used axle . What else could be wrong with it.
    Brakes
    Wheel bearings
    Bent housing
    Etc etc

If you decided to just buy a locker. I know someone that can setup your diff. He's in RI as well . He rebuilt mine when I broke it . It was cheap.
    Here's mine

After he rebuilt it for me .

    Ouch!!
Thank you all for chiming in here. I did know the 8.4 was stronger. The reason I I was looking at the ARB vs the elocker is because they are both switch driven.

I really have little to no experience with a locker. I understand how the ^ work. But I am unsure how the centrifugal versions work. Well other then give it gas and gravity forces the locker to engage.

I will keep reading and researching.
    Thank you.

What, you mean like an Aussie Locker or a Powertrax? That's pretty much the way they work...
Noisy suckers, though. A buddy I used to wheel with in high school had one in his Jeep, and every time it engaged offroad I thought he'd detonated his ring gear. Plus you can't control when they lock and unlock, which can be a pain if you're crawling and want it to stay locked.

Here's an explanation of how the Powertrax unit works:

The only thing with the elocker that I didn't like was sometimes it doesn't want to engage . I would have to put it in reverse then drive and back and forth till it popped in. I would lock it as soon as I got in the woods and leave it locked all day because if your stuck and cant go in reverse then it might not engage when you need it .

The arb or zip locker is a flick of a switch so you don't need to worry about It.
It really comes down to money and how much you will use it .
My plan is to put a Detroit in the rear of the 4runner because it's not a daily driver and I can deal with it locked on the road . I wouldn't want a all the time locked diff in my tacoma . It would annoy me to much .

I haven't started looking yet. I'm waiting on some parts to come in. Hopefully tomorrow according to ups. Tie rod ends, shock tabs , need to fix the ebrake cable. Just trying to get the inspection items out of the way first.
I saw your nh plates:) I have a guy up near me that does inspections if you need it.
