When I had my new tires put on, I simply said I'm not putting in the TPMS. Any they took the sensors out of the old wheels for me too.

Guy seems really proud of his Robert E. Lee, yet he moved to AZ.

    Yeah...
Anybody who's done house mods knows how much more expensive they usually are than truck mods.

Pretty much. We're already re-purposing all the dog gates as baby gates. Personally, I can't wait until he's mobile, I think he'll be a lot more fun. I know it means a lot more work but I'm ready for it (or as ready as I'll ever be).
Don't take it to heart, that guy is an ignoramous. It's really not worth the waste of oxygen to argue with him. Haven'y you ever heard the old saying, "Never argue with an idiot, they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." He is case-in-point.
Amen to that... Fortunately, I save a ton of money doing the work myself. The raw building materials really aren't that expensive. Studs, drywall and joint compound are pretty cheap, the money will be in the furniture and the flooring.

Maybe they did, dunno. I CAN assure you that after blowing out two tires I have no damage to the TPMS.

Johnny U-bolts kinda has a ring to it!

Yeah, flooring adds up in a hurry even if you're doing the work yourself. I installed tile in the kitchen and bathrooms at our old house, and even doing 100% of the work myself it still ran me over $1500 for it. And that was working with the $1/square foot discontinued ceramic Home Depot tile, at that!

Damn man... I tiled my kitchen, mud room and entry and all the materials were under $500. Did the same thing, discontinued tile at Home Depot and, since it was discontinued, I bought a good 30 - 40% extra to make sure I had enough. When doing renovations, buy those 10% off coupons on Ebay for Lowes (HD honors Lowes coupons). If you have only one, you usually wait until you make one big purchase but if you have a lot of them, and use them on every purchase, it really adds up. You can usually buy them for $1/ea.

I'm not looking forward to hardwood installation. I feel like that'll be an expensive endeavor.

^^^ Lumber Liquidators. Helps take the edge off on pricing.

It's a fun project too as long as the subfloor is in good shape. If you've got a person on the gun, one running and placing materials, and another on cuts it goes really fast after the first two courses have been laid.

Shrug. The old house had pretty good-sized bathrooms an a BIG kitchen. Plus the side entrydoor came in that way, so I tiled the pantry, the closet, and the entryway same as the kitchen. And it had just regular 1/2 OSB subflooring, so I had to lay down those cement boards to increase the rigidity of the flooring to keep the tile or mortar from cracking. And since I HATE grouting tile I went with that more expensive epoxy resin grout that's stainproof and lasts forever.
And I'm a perfectionist, so I ended up buying a tile saw for the cuts rather than using the score-and-split method, which set me back another $75. I did use the 10% off coupon, which saved be about $160 bucks or so.
And it was worth it; the tile more than paid for itself when it was time to sell the house. The couple that bought it 'just loved' the custom tile work in the kitchen and were 'so happy' that it wasn't linoleum like all the other houses they'd looked at. (I didn't tell them that the only reason I tore the old linoleum out was because it was covered in cigarette burns from the previous owners)

As for the hardwood, expensive AND labor-intensive, haha!
We've done laminate for all the floors we've redone, because our dog gets wound up and runs around and would absolutely destroy hardwood flooring. On the one hand it's too bad, because if we didn't have her I'd do bamboo floors all through the upstairs. But, on the other hand, laminate's cheaper and faster to install.

Lol...it goes slow when you're the one person.

That's where we've been looking. We've been poking around their showroom in Braintree.

About the whole labor thing... I'll be on the hammer, saw and will be the runner so it will definitely not be a quick process... It'll have a good subfloor though, I'll make sure of that.

Fortunately, my dad has accumulated a lot of the required tools over the years so I've saved a lot on not buying them. I wasn't thinking about that. He loaned me his tile saw for the project so I didn't have to buy one myself but that alone could have set me back another couple hundred bucks.

Do you have friend/relatives etc. with bamboo? My parents have it in their whole house and three dogs. It is about 8 years old and looks like new. Someone told me at one point that the bamboo flooring systems are actually somewhat harder than some of the hardwoods. YMMV, just fyi

They are harder than hardwoods but have their own set of cons. Its a hard material but tends to dent a little worse. If you wear your shoes in the house (or if your wife wears heels in the house), they aren't great. We go through that at times on commercial projects where clients want to use bamboo in public areas. It does hold up well and can look great though. I wouldn't hesitate to put it in my house, I just like the look of oak better.
