For not actually meeting any of you in person, you guys sure are still a bad infuence...

Had the truck less then 1 year and have replaced the wheels, added a roof rack and now ordered sliders...

Damn... That sucks! Yet another reason why I've taken every wiring harness ever provided as part of a kit, thrown it in the trash and started from scratch.
Don't worry, it only gets worse the longer you stay :)

Was going to change the oil today. Was worried about rain, instead it's windy as hell. I need a garage.

Amen to that! What's even more frustrating is having a garage that the f-in truck won't fit into :frusty:

Until eventually you go insane and buy a Ford. How long that takes depends on the strength of your will...

Even then, TW still cost me money with the Ferd by way of the Rigid Industries and Weathertech GBs :anonymous:

That was the relay. The melted part is (or should I say was) the fuse holder. Fortunately I had a spare one on the shelf, bought it before you mentioned the lifetime on the PIAA stuff and PIAA mailed me another one. Time to call them again!

I know, that relay was the only part of PIAA's kit that I actually used. I use those heavy duty exterior grade fuse holders usually. They're pretty beefy. Make sure you don't have any other shorts. That sort of thing should never happen, the fuse should blow LONG before things melt like that (sort of the whole idea of the fuse). That's either a really shitty fuse holder of you have an underlying issue (my guess is the first one).

That's part of the relay...PPP15, which is the one they use now. Plugs right inline as one piece. Dumb question but would starting the truck with the lights already on cause that perhaps? I swapped the relay and it works now.

Starting the truck with the lights on shouldn't do anything. Did you tap the original harness (meant for 2 lights) and add the 3rd to it and just upsize the fuse? That could cause the fuse holder to melt before the fuse blows because the holder isn't meant for 3 lights.

Ferd is due for it's first oil change, just read my manual and realize the thing takes 8 quarts  Oil changes just got a bit more expensive.... At least the Motorcraft filters aren't terribly priced.

Awesome! Can't beat old tools for rugged design. Sand the surface rust off, coat it with an inhibitor, slap some new grease on the bearings, and it'll look like new!

But how far does the manual say you can go between changes?

The dealer said 5k miles but I'll stretch that out a bit. They drained all the fluids at 15k when I bought it and said it would be due for another change at 20k miles. I run Mobil 1 so I usually run my intervals a little longer unless I'm towing or do a lot of city driving. I'll stretch to 7,500 miles, just like I did with the Taco.
