The motor should have a plate with HP rating, amperage, build date, etc on it, at least. If it's original that'll help narrow the year of the press down. Or maybe you'll find a patent # or model # underneath that sawdust or on the bottom of the unit.

I'm guessing it's older than the 50's if it's a Delta; My dad has a Delta drill press from '54 or '55 (don't remember for sure) and it looks like so:

Well, I am out. Traded in the Tacoma yesterday and went to the dark side - got a V6 crew cab Frontier. The Tacoma let me down pretty hard and toyota was blowing me off enough to wave the white flag.

I had the 4-cyl standard and the clutch started slipping at 30K. All the local toyota dealers told me there is nothing they can do about it seeing as the TSB only covered up to a 2011, and my 2012 (bought in February of 2012) was SOL. I have driven standards for most of my life and know how to save a clutch lol. No way a clutch with 30K should be slipping.....

And add the fact that my frame was already showing surface rust (and after reading the stories here), I said nope; not going to go through this. I know the Frontier has an issues with the transmission cooler, but it appears they have gotten around to fixing this on the 2014's. The resell is going to plummet faster than the Tacoma, but with all the upgrades I was able to score, I plan on holding on to it for a while.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Yes powder coating is very flexible and can flex with the metal as the spring compresses. One thing to make sure is that they don't off gas them too long as heat can affect spring steel. I've powder coated quite a few coils and they turn out great and hold up as if they were new.

Nah, I'm sticking with the Ferd for hopefully a long time. Tacoma wouldn't fit in the garage either. I'll just take all the TW mods and apply them to the Ferd and make the flat brimmers jealous :D

Damn man... that's rough! Which engine did you get in the Frontier? My boss bought one last year and it's really nice. His only complaint is the fuel economy. He bought a crew cab Prox4 and it's LOADED.

You do need to out gas them a little bit though right? I thought it was more about the temp then it was the length of time on spring steel as it will change the tensile strength.

I got the 4.0L V6. I am getting 18-19 mpg with a light foot. I couldn't afford the Pro4X but went with an upgraded SV. Came with the tow package, seat warmers, backup camera, etc....Surprising how much you can get for a decent price.

Wow, that's great! My boss is only getting 16 - 17 tops with his. He was getting over 20 in his older 4Runner but I think the Prox4 might be geared a little lower. I was also impressed at how well dressed the Frontier came. Especially since a lot of those features aren't even an option on the Tacoma.

I checked out the Nissans when I bought the Taco but I liked the interior much more on the Toyota, the Nissan was all one texture hard plastic. Also from my friends experience with his 50K Armana with fuel, interior squeaks and so much rust that they replaced the rear suspension on a 5yo truck that I decided to go with the Tacoma. Never looked back since.
