    $250?

No real cons. It runs well.

I have an older Husq that just needs a new bar and chain. Used it last spring with no issue other than the bar moving causing some slack. Replace the bar and it's like new! No need for two saws.... Interested?

Stihl - MS 251 - works great. But I am picking up a 362 or a 441 due to the frequency I am using mine.

http://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/homeowner-saws/ms251cbe/ - New they are $370 - I got it for 20% off and they also tossed in some bar oil, and a new 'yellow' chain.

    I have a Husky 51.
It cost me around $250 about 15 years ago

    Pros-
    Paid for
    Runs great, always starts
The only maintenance it's needed has been routine (new chains, 2 new bars, 1 new air filter, 2 spark plugs, etc)
    Easy to work on
Light enough to limb with, heavy enough to cut trunks with

    Cons-
Has started leaking B&C oil when it's not in use.
Doesn't have quite as much grunt as it did when it was new
Have to use the choke to start it more than I used to.
It's getting tougher to find parts on the shelf
All these issues can be attributed to 'old age'

You can find Used ones on Craigslist all the time. I like Stihl - great customer service. Great quality product and was told they will never sell to Big Box Stores. To each their own though.

It is basically just an engine, with a bar, and a chain. As long as you keep up on the service. You should have an engine for life.

We started to discuss Chainsaws in the Overland thread. Might be some useful info there. Or We could always start a chainsaw thread.

For what you're looking for johnny, I'd say Craigslist is your friend. You can find a good used name-brand saw on there for $100-150 any day of the week. The older ones are a lot of times better than the new ones, too, it seems. I've probably cut several hundred cord of wood with my saw and never had a breakdown. My dad's 4 year-old Stihl has been in the shop twice since he bought it.

    Edit: Oh hey, great minds...

FYI, if it is an old husky or an old stihl, the numbers correspond to the newer versions. Normally reflect engine displacement. Bar thickness is the next thing. The difference between a PRO and a Homemaker - from what I was told.

I don't need two saws. I need a high lift. He needs a saw. The saw needs a bar and chain. Not a bad trade at all for a well cared for saw

A new bar and chain would be less than ~$100

Give me your address and we'll see if it works at 2am.

On a totally unrelated note; Any large, deep bodies of water in the area near your residence? Asking for a friend... :anonymous:

Sabattus Lake is a fairly large body, but it's not that deep.

Plus, if you're showing up for a demonstration of the saw, you should do it during daylight hours. Driving you to the ER full of buckshot at 2AM would be inconvenient.

It's hard to wield a shotgun inside though.

I just hope it starts on the first pull
