I thought that on the 2nd gen Tacos, 4th gen wagons, that the balljoint won't just fall out like that when it fails.

It will still buckle the wheel in and destroy everything . The end result is the same .

 

But only if you let it go for so long that it actually wears through the shaft so that the control arm can pull away from the pivot point. Hopefully if you let it get that bad somebody just shoots you to keep you from contributing to the gene pool.

 

That's why you don't use that design for the lower ball joint...

The 2nd Gens have a different design. There isn't as much stress on the ball joint so it shouldn't just get loose and fall out like they have been with the 1st Gens. If it does actually fall out, you're right, the end result would be the same, it just shouldn't happen to begin with.
