I like shooting with irons too. It's actually a big part of why I haven't scoped my mini-14 yet. And I've got the see-thru scope mounts on my brush gun (Marlin 336) because irons are so much faster to acquire for a snap shot when you're doing a woods sneak and bounce one.

those are the only kind of shots I get out here.....which is why I am working on a full length picatinny rail system for my H&R slugger...all I got on it now is a small rail section just forward of the breach...I have enough junk rails at my work that they are letting my mess around with, this way I can put on a HK style front sight,

I honestly tried a red dot on it but after 10 rounds the zero went bye bye

Ah, I didn't realize you meant the actual sniper version mount. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, I already have too much money into this thing the way it is so I'm not sure what direction I'll take. The AR is getting finished before anything. I can already hit fairly accurately at 100 yards with the iron sights on the Mosin. Haven't had a chance to get out past that yet but will soon.

For a rifle mass-produced under less than ideal conditions by communists, the Mosins really are very accurate shooters.

I agree, that's why I don't understand why I catch so much shit for dumping money into it. So far, I have more into the stock and trigger than the firearm cost me initially but I now have an accurate and comfortable shooter with an awesome trigger for under $350. It'll never be a tack driver but I'm not a good enough marksman to do that anyways.

same goes for the SKS, I have a nice Yugo that is easy to maintain and does well out to 100 yards with open sights...got if for 150.00 bucks

I am actually looking for a Mosin, saw a few at the Big E gun show and like everything else the prices were slightly elevated

Shrug. I've had one on my "to buy" list for quite a while, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I think next time Bud's runs one of their $100 Mosin specials I might order one up. A buddy of mine did that last time they ran one, and his showed up in surprisingly nice condition. If you don't mind spending an hour or two stripping cosmoline, it's a hell of a deal.

Damn man, that's a great deal! I would like to add an SKS to my collection but they're running like $400 now it seems...
I overpaid for mine but bought from a reputable local shop and I was able to see it before I paid. It's in nice condition but was still caked in cosmoline. I paid $175 for mine but there are group buys through local shops that will get you down close to $100 for the Chinese T53.

Kind of late in the day for that, isn't it?

they fell victim to the mass panic post sandy hook where no one could afford or want to buy a flippn 2,000 AR so they turned to once use to be cheap SKS/Mosin. at that point it was no longer a buyers market and became a sellers market...I say it first hand at work, thankfully we did not price gouge but damn we could not keep things in stock...now since everyone blew their load (bank account) on overpriced junk hopefully you will see prices drop a bit
