Do why not keep it instead of taking on debt. You're always complaining about not having money. Better to pay a few thousand to fix something than to take on thousands/ tens of thousands of dollars of debt

A buddy of mine had one of those. They are scary fast! I wouldn't own one as my only vehicle though. His went through those nice high end brakes pretty quickly and to replace them cost about $1k. I don't remember what he said the tires cost him but they were obnoxious as well. I think they were in the upper $200's per tire unless he wanted a low grade tire that wouldn't grip with the power the car had.

My only advice (granted I'm echoing a lot of what has already been said) is to take a step back and think about what you need/want out of a vehicle.

A 4Runner is a lot different than a Tacoma in many ways. Granted, yes they're both off-roadable Toyotas, but there are things you can do with a pickup that you can't with the 4Runner and vice versa. A base Impreza is a completely different animal.

Figure out what you want out of a vehicle and then go in that direction. The last thing you want to do is purchase something and immediately change your mind. If you're truly into off-roading, an Impreza is going to do nothing for you.

You're a young guy, so they're going to rake you over the coals (or try to) when it comes to pricing and financing.

I'm incredibly conservative financially so I guess I'm looking at it as what is your plan in the next 5 years or so. Are you looking to purchase your own place, are you looking to move to do something different? If so, is it better to have a tangible asset that is yours no matter what, or do you want something that you might have to pay for but you don't have to put any money into?

Let's be honest, we're all car enthusiasts here...if you purchase a Tacoma, you're going to modify it which will ultimately make it potentially less practical than a base truck. If you purchase the Impreza, there's very little you can do to it short of making it handle better. You can't add power to the NA motors and looks wise there's not much out there for them.

If your 4Runner is right at the stage where it's starting to break a lot...maybe a new car isn't a bad option if there's still value in the truck and you get money out of the deal (ie you're not upside down) but to be all over the map (as it appears you are) and making an impulsive decision (which is the direction it appears from your posts you are considering)...I'd recommend taking a step back and taking stock in what you have and what you ultimately want.

It's not an easy situation (trust me...I've fought the urges pretty bad over the years) but in the end you'll feel better. When my old truck flunked inspection in December of 2011 I nearly went down to the local Toyota dealership and put down a deposit on a new SR5 just because I was so upset and I wanted a truck right then, but I knew it was ultimately a bad financial decision and not what I wanted. I ended up selling my truck, selling all my spare parts, banking my tax refund for 2011 and then got sent to China for work where I worked 3 weeks of 11 hour days. I came back home and threw down a huge deposit on my Taco and am not sweating the payments.

It's amazing how far you can stretch a modest budget with some careful planning and sweating the details.

    The truck is paid.

I'll be moving come summer time.

Thanks for the insight. I just feel the need for something new and shiny. Some day I'll get the WRX STI

I suppose I'll rebuild the entire front suspension, replace all my belt driven accessories, remove the sheared bolts and replace the skid plates, fix the rattles and squeaks, etc... Then it should be good for a while.

Once I get my commercial diver cert, money won't be an issue. Can't wait for that day!

Dunkin and my gauge swaps have been ramping up like CRAZY lately! Lots of happy customers and even more referrals from them. I couldn't be happier about that. Paying down about $1k in debt, then I'm banking EVERYTHING, selling lots of things, and getting ready to get the hell out of dodge and start things new

There are a lot of other options out there you might want to check into before you blindly go STi, especially if it's not your only vehicle.
