    Looking at the Ho-Runner, eh?

Not sure I agree with any of those vehicles for a 'best of' overland vehicle. I mean, they put a Ram Ecodiesel in the line-up....

Aren't you a little old to be playing with dolls?

    Malibu?
Those things are hard on their front brakes; when I worked at a shop we were constantly doing everything from pad slaps to full brake jobs on those. A couple of my techs got so that they could do a full brake job on one in a little under 30 minutes, and I had the part #'s memorized.

    Edit:
    Also, Happy Monday, Faces!!!

Yup. The nice thing about the malibu is parts are cheap. The longest part of the job was getting my daughter out of bed to bleed the brakes. Pads rotors and two lines were 140.00

Shrug. A 500-600 mile fuel range is nothing to sneeze at in the back country, though. Not everybody overland's by climbing goat trails with a 45 degree grade and lots of boulders. One of those with a camper in the bed would be a lot of fun to explore Maine's extensive logging road network with, for instance.

I don't disagree with that, but range is nothing if the vehicle is not capable or reliable enough to get you there and back. And not for nothing but Ford has already been doing that for a long time. They put a 36 gallon tank in their F150 and they've proven to be much, much more reliable than the current Ram (especially one with an unproven powerplant). Honestly, if they were going into full sized pickups, I was surprised to not see the Raptor. It's more purpose built than any vehicle on that list.

Perceptions of reliability are subjective, though (and usually a couple of years behind the times). You'd rather have a Ford over a Ram because you think the Ford's more reliable, but JD power released a reliability study last month that ranked the Ram line higher than the Ford.

    https://www.cars.com/articles/2015/02/toyota-gm-top-jd-power-dependability-study-fiat-chrysler-still-trails/

But you probably still wouldn't buy a Ram, because of your perception of them as unreliable. And I'd buy a Ram before a Ford (or a GM, even though they ranked higher) because my family's always had good luck with Dodge trucks and terrible luck with Fords and GM's.

Not sure on their choice for the outdoorsman, though, other than that it's a 4x4 Fullsize that gets almost 30MPG and thus far has good reviews from owners. The Power Wagon (or the Craptor :p) would have been more capable choices.

Online says 19, but when my gas light comes on, 15 gallons brims it. Probably have an expedition sized reserve

    FTFY.

My GF will run the tank on her Honda down to fumes, every time. Drives me nuts. I tank up when I hit the '1/2' mark, because you never know when you'll have to go somewhere in a hurry and won't have time to stop for gas first.

    :anonymous:

I always keep it above 1/4 unless I'm on road trips, so I KNOW I need to get gas and I'm already driving.

Ari isn't like that. She never pushes her luck with low fuel.

How many times have you had to bring your GF fuel, Noel?

Fortunately so far I haven't had to. She's been lucky that way so far.
However, I replaced the fuel pump on her Cherokee when she had one, and on her civic twice when she had it.

Plus it seems like whenever she borrows my truck the first thing I have to do the next time I drive it is fill the tank again.

Be mean and let her run out of gas and act super surprised

And she's gone through that many fuel pumps!?

She pays attention to the light; she just waits and lets it turn on EVERY tank. Then she'll drive a while more, and THEN fuel up.

Yep. Granted, it may have been basic mechanical failure since her jeep had 165k on it when I swapped pumps, and the Civic had around 140k and then again around 200k. But since the fuel keeps them cool, and she's always running them without any fuel around them I'm inclined to think she's not helping them last.
