Out with the crap, in with the better crap

What system? The one in the 4Runner went with it.

I'm replacing 7 of 9 speakers in the FJ. 4 tweeters, the 2 door speakers, and the OEM sub I'm swapping the woofer out for a better one. Going from 200a to 600a

Same speakers I had in my 4Runner minus the sub, I'm going a different route with the sub.

I'd like to upgrade my sound system, but that costs money. Money that could be used for guns, ammo, and bike parts.

    ....and strippers.

    $38 upgrade

Took about an hour and a half, cost next to nothing, and sounds 4x better. I did one side at a time, and I turned the radio on after doing one side to compare. Absolutely no comparison... The new ones were clear, open, and strong, and the stock ones were garbled, compressed, and tinny as all hell.

Can't wait to do the rest of em!

Cool, I thought you pulled the amp and sub out of the Runner.

On the 3.5s, did you have to modify the bracket to fit them or just remove and replace? Not planning to change mine but I swapped out the stock for 1" Rockford Fosgate tweets last summer and was happy.

I agree stereo stuff can cost moneyz..I bought my stuff long ago and when something breaks just try to upgrade from what I had. Much as I want a new sub amp to replace my Jensen I can't justify replacing something that at least works..

These are dual voice mids and tweeters. They're amazing.

    Mornin'

That's the problem with antiques, sometimes. Finding original is more trouble or more $$$ than it's worth, especially for something like carbs where there's so much aftermarket. Do they do much for aftermarket cams for that old 200 I6?

Shrug. 'Pickup' to 1st Gen was a big change. 1st Gen to 2nd Gen was a big change. 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen was a change, but I think they wanted to keep it more or less recognizable.
Now, if you want to talk about a lack of change...
Silverado/Sierra. Changed every panel but they look exactly the same.

Do you know why cavemen dragged their women by their hair rather than their feet?

If you drag them by their feet, they'll get full of rocks :rimshot:
So far, I like Avec. Pricing and customer service is great and the lights seem to be holding up very well.

I have not once ever done any stereo upgrades besides changing the head unit. Never seemed really worth it to me, stock speakers play music which is all I ask of them.

If you ever ride in a vehicle which has been sound proofed with a decent sound system (and I'm not talking a teen that thinks trunk rattling bass is a good sound system, I'm talking high end speakers, thicker wire, good head unit), you'll at least know why people spend the money to do it. Might still not be your thing, but you'll understand and appreciate it.

Might be. Never ridden in such a vehicle though. I always found the stock stuff good enough for my tastes

I have once and it was awesome! I've only upgraded one sound system and that was my truck in high school. The only reason I upgraded it was, as Billy mentioned, I couldn't hear it with the windows open and the truck didn't have A/C. I left my trucks stock in the audio department ever since. The biggest reason I've left them stock is I could never dump the amount of money into it to make it what I want, always other areas I'd rather upgrade first.

lol. As long as the speakers are clear enough for me to listen to NPR (and occasionally WBLM) and understand them I'm happy.

Every vehicle I've had I've done the audio on. I like good sounding music and the stock setup doesn't cut it for me
