"You know how it makes sense that we get you a family vehicle in the near future for family things...I bought a 3rd vehicle for myself, surprise!"

You can totally potentially baby an Xtracab, right? Some sturdy ratchet straps, a few pool noodles and some poly fill stuffing and the baby is plenty safe.

I thought about it but I'm not too worried right now. I figure we will get a family car and I can always borrow my Mom's Forester in a pinch. My next truck will be a DCSB ultimately but I'm going to rock the AC as long as possible.

EDIT: My babying comment was about the 91, not my truck.

First car was a 84 ford exp looked just like this one. I loved that car til it jumped onto its roof while I was driving at " a safe a reasonable speed " while I was supposed to be in school.

    Looking for opinions:
I am considering tweaking my Taco rear suspension ahead of getting my trailer registered. My thoughts are All Pro Expo Leaf pack and/or Firestone Air bags. I'm leaning toward the spring packs 1st...thoughts?

I had installed the Firestone bags on my GMC and they worked great. I went with the on board comp with gauges setup to avoid gas station fill ups. I went with Firestone because their bags sat between the axel and frame and not just bolted to the side of the frame like others I saw.

I think expo's are supposed to give 4" of lift unless you keep a couple hundred pounds of weight in the back all the time. The expos are supposed to flex pretty good too so I'm not too sure how they would do with all that weight from a trailer. I think a better spring option in your case would be the Dakars. I myself would probably do the dakars and if they needed help then add the bags. Just my .02C's. GL

If the truck isn't really going to be used for off roading any longer, I'd go air bags for the adjustability. Are your leafs shot? If not, Wheelers makes, or used to make a heavy duty version of their 3-leaf AAL that was decent.
I thought the Expos were supposed to be really stiff. Like maintain 3-4" of lift with several hundred lbs in the bed. The All Pro standard pack sounds like the one you described.

Not really stiff only 20% stiffer and no over load spring. The expos (the way I understand it) are designed to carry the load of bed rack, RTT etc for an expedition distributed evenly in the bed but still be able to flex pretty well. The weight of a trailer is on the very back of the truck. The Dakars will still flex well when off roading (though not as good as the expos) but handle the weight of hauling better. IMHO

    From All-Pro's website:
"All-Pro's Expedition Leaf Springs feature a 20% higher spring rate than their standard leaf springs. They are otherwise identical in dimension and quality, providing the same eye-to-eye measurements and wheel travel. On unloaded Tacomas, they will result in a 1" taller stance than the stated lift height of 3". The stated lift height is maintained with loads of 400-500 lbs of cargo."

I see what you're saying now though, I misread your original post. The Dakars have the 2 overloads so they won't squat as bad when loaded down.

Correct. That's why I say try the Dakars 1st without bags and then add the bags if needed.

After towing a rig with my tacoma, I would recommend air bags. No need for special leafs, they will effect your ride quality too much. Air Bags are more adjustable, so you can have the support when needed and take it off when you dont. Also, invest in a good brake controller and learn how to properly set it up.

Yeah but his rig is totally set up for wheeling already. If he is going to keep it like that I think the Dakars are still a little bit better as like Mike said they will be vulnerable to damage as he's taking it off-road.

I don't suppose anyone around the Worcester area has tools to scan ans set new TPMS sensors in our trucks? I picked up a set of factory take-off steel wheels and sensors that I just had snow tires installed on, will need to have the new sensors set up in the truck.

Do any of you guys know someone who does upholstery? I'm looking to get a motorcycle seat recovered and not sure I want to tackle that myself if I can have a professional do it at a reasonable cost. I can do it myself but I'm sure it will be a very noticeable DIY job in the end.

I used these guys for a tear in a motorcycle seat a while ago and they did it quick and cheap. Looked better than I expected too, was about $100 or so.

If I was to do it again, I would tackle it myself for the $30 in materials or so....from what I have found, if you follow the steps correctly, its not a difficult job to make look great.

Check out this site if you are still unsure on hiring someone to do it for you:
