    Morning all!
I learned stick with a '57 Ford ....tractor
Worked, though. Taught me that a clutch isn't an on/off switch, lol. When I graduated to the old farm CJ it was a short learning curve, and then when I got on the road there wasn't one.

    DO EEEEEET!!!

Nothing to it, press in the clutch, select your gear, plant the throttle and let the clutch go while keeping your right foot firmly planted on the throttle. :D
    Ferds allowed?
Same here, I learned on an old Kubota tractor. Much easier to learn how to use a clutch on something that's geared really low. Unloaded, you could just let the clutch out at idle and it wouldn't stall so it was forgiving.

So we're officially a Ford family now... We traded in my wife's Accord last night for an Escape. We pick it up tomorrow evening. We'll have some stuff for sale from the Accord if anyone is looking (particularly a set of studded snows on factory steel wheels, mounted, balanced and ready to go).

Right, and make sure you don't pop the clutch until the motor's bouncing off the rev limiter or it'll stall.

I hear you on the low gearing. When I was teaching a buddy of mine to drive stick we were using the Cherokee I had at the time. I put it in low range to let him get a feel for the clutch engagement point, then switched back to 2-hi once he got the hang of it. Of course, the 4.0 in that Cherokee was such a torque monster that you really didn't need a lot of practice. You could let the clutch out without touching the throttle in first, or start off in 3rd if you rode the clutch a little bit.

I learned the concept of a standard Trans from dirt bikes early on. Once I got behind the wheel of a standard car it was easy to relate
