I have electric heat and a pellet stove. I use the pellet stove 99% of the year and have the thermostat at 55 just in case. I had the grid run a gas line to my house but havnt gotten a heating system installed yet. (Need to save a bit more money). Think I'm going with forced air so I can do ac during the summer. Any input?

 

It's a pain filling the stove everyday and repairing Jams 3-4x a month I want to be able to set a thermostat and be done. But have pellets as a backup.

 

Yup, gas fired hot air with AC. Relatively inexpensive system and it heats the house pretty fast. My family has 2 houses out on the cape. One has hot air, one has baseboard hot water. The house with hot air heats up from 42F to 68F quite fast. However, the house with baseboard takes about 4 hours to recover. Also, running AC in a house with baseboard usually ends up putting the AC in the attic which isn't the most efficient place for cooling in the summer and causes heat loss in the winter. I actually have to cover my ceiling registers or I'll get moisture build up in the trunk lines in the attic. I even added 6" of insulation over the already insulated lines.

I'd like to change over to either a pellet or propane insert. Cutting, splitting and stacking 4 cord this year got a bit old. My back isn't as young as it was. Then each week I schlep wood from the wood shed into the garage. The fun part is using the quad and trailer to do that job. I only have to move it, at most, 75 - 100'. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts - a middle aged man riding around the house on a quad with only a 1/3 acre lot to move wood. It'd be faster to use the wheelbarrow, but what's the enjoyment in that?

 

Early morning for me at the airport. Daughter is cutting 4 teeth right now so we haven't slept much this past week. 345 AM wake up was brutal this morning

 

We have free baseboard heat in the apartment.... But our landlady has yet to turn it on... Brr

 

Wood. Fill the stove in the morning, fill it again before we go to bed. Clean it out and fill the wood rack on Sundays. I've only burned about 1/3 of a cord so far this year, though. Waiting for the other shoe to drop...

 

Tylenol or Motrin worked wonders for my son .

 

x2, there were a couple days when it was really bad for my son so we resorted to Children's Tylenol. He was running a fever when he was cutting his teeth also which didn't help.

 

Before he died my great grandfather used to brag about how he rubbed scotch on my gums when I was teething.

Teething days/night are tough. My little guy is still going through it since he's only one and half.

Just have to stick it out and it'll be over soon. That's what I keep telling myself at least.

5/12/14. And got another one on the way, due end of February. A girl this time.

The pellet stove insert will be cheaper initially, and provide more heat. Just have to feed it all the time. My stove is 15 years old besides pulling it out to clean and replacing the auger motor it hasn't had any issues.
