I've never owned a snowblower, but from what I've seen other people go through, it seems they need to be fixed after every use.

Depends. Since they're carburated all the dumpy ass ethanol in gas gums them up if you don't winterize them properly. Pretty common to snap the pullchord if you try to hulk it. Otherwise besides shear pins they are pretty tough, at least in my experience. Basic maintenance should keep one running for a long time. Mine is from the early 90s and still throws snow pretty damn well.

Just like anything else you get what you pay for, if you've got a small unit and your trying to clear a big ass driveway with 10" of wet heavy snow then ya, it probably won't last that long.

I have tried winterizing my snowblower a few different ways. I've left it full w/o stabilizer (silly, silly idea) which left me with a broken machine. I ran it dry before last winter and ended up with a ruined carb, so this year I took the advice of the local repair shop filled it with fuel and some stabilizer they sold at their shop, ran it, topped it off and it started on the first crank when I tried it last month. That being said, I did drop the ball on changing the oil, so I do need to do that.

You mean like plowing a 22" light use machine into 18" of snow? I blew up my gearbox last year doing that. I never pushed it hard enough to break a shear pin, but it was enough to wreck brass gears inside the case.

I'm eyeing the 28" Ariens SHO unit as a replacement. My best friend just picked one up, so I'm eager to hear his experiences with it. I know there's Simplicity as well, which the local shop swears by, but I like the idea of the SHO since it's the 30" motor on the 28" chassis.

I'm thinking of picking up something like this:

so that I can easily transport it back and forth to my Mom's house, since while it's not too difficult moving the 22" machine I have now in and out of the bed, doing that with a 28, with the cap would be a hassle.

Get the SHO unit, you will be happy you did. Mines basically the same thing, but an old HD snapper one. Bigger engine on a 30" chassis, cast case, tough gears, grease zerks all over. Haven't had 1 issue with it besides having to replace the carb which takes like 30 minutes.

Merry Christmas to me! I have the best uncle, lol.

Missing the oiling/cleaning kit, though. I'll have to hunt around for one.

I look up old CUCV K5 Blazers every time it snows around me. I don't have a great driveway for a plow truck. Plus the wife might gripe about having 3 vehicles, when she wants a family hauler.

Lol, I spent years eye-guzzling plow trucks on Craigslist every time it snowed when we were at our old house, but had the same problem. So I suffered through 90 minutes of marching up and down the driveway with snow blowing in my face instead. This house has a garage and plenty of space out back to park the Yeti, so she couldn't say no. Especially since it meant she could park her Honda and steal my Tacoma when it snows.

That's why I bought my wife a Subie, I'm not giving up my Taco when it snows.

That's the way to go. I used to have to drive my wife to work when it was nasty out before she had her soccer mom T4R. Now she can drive herself

I don't mind her taking it; I'd drive the Yeti when it snows anyway. That way it's already warmed up when I get home, so that I can just drop the plow when I pull in.

Or drop the plow when someone in a prius with low rolling resistance tires is stuck in the road.

That too. I've actually given bumper pushes with the plow before, and I've dropped the plow leaving work before so that my coworkers with cars can get past the bank at the end of the road that the town plows have kicked up.

I got my new lights on the Ferd this week. I need to really test them but they seem f-in bright! They're D2 dually hyperspots. Anyone want a cheap 30" combo light bar?

Already done, lol. No kids, no wife :notsure:

For now it'll stay a stock plinker. I was considering building one but realized once I started researching that I didn't know what the hell I was doing so I figured I'd buy one, get comfortable with it, and maybe then tinker with it instead. Maybe I'll build one someday, but for now I figured I'd stick to a softer learning curve.
I've wanted an AR for a while, but never got around to it. Some recent...things... kind of nudged me off the cliff, lol.
