Yup, I have seen that truck a couple of times. When ever i see that truck, I always check twice to make sure it wasn't you. The first time I saw the twin to your truck, I waved, then later realised it wasn't you.

 

I was up in New Hampshire for the weekend and saw two nasty tacomas. First one was on the way up on 16 just south of ossippee. It was a 2008 silver access cab with a three inch lift and secs wheels in matte gunmetal. Also had dual exhaust and a billet grill. I'm pretty sure it was my old truck. Then today on 16 in Portsmouth I saw a red double cab with Baja fenders painted in bed liner and what looked to be 35s. He went north towards Maine as I went south on 95.

 

I've seen the red one a bunch a times. Truck used to be parked overnight in Portsmouth by The Pearl.

Morning all. Stopped by the dealership on Saturday and had them order up a set of recall springs for me. Then this spring I'll install a set of 5100's and see if we can't improve the comfort factor a little bit. The roads around here suck, so between flat springs and older shocks the ride just isn't cutting it for me any more.

 

Are you lifting also? Just curious why you're going with 5100's. The Bilstein HDs are non adjustable and are supposed to ride really nice. Just throwing it out there as an option for you vs. paying for adjustability you don't intend to use.

Nah, just leveling. The reports I've read on the new springs are that they boost the rear ride height by an inch or so. My truck is more or less level now, with the worn-out flat pack and I don't want it to look like a Silverado/Sierra because I really don't like that nose-down look.

 

If they're new Toyota springs, don't worry, they'll be flat again in a year

 

I had mine done 2 weeks ago at westboro toyota...They are quite nice. It definitely feels a lot more solid...Now I need new tires...

 

Probably very true. But, I can always notch the billies back down if that's the case!


If it ends up not lifting the rear with the new packs, I'll just get the standard HD's instead. But if it's got that Chevy lean...5100's

Did you notice any difference in height on the rear?

 

I posted this in the leaf spring thread..I measured about a 3/4" lift off the tire with the same amount of gas...

Just put your 5100's at .85" and you'll be all set

 

Question for you Rob, if I may, since it seems like from what I make out, you seem to know a lot about cars/automotive mechanics.

I saw you posted the other day that OME was better than Bilstein... I think that's what it was. Curious to know why you say that since you seem to be "in the know". Just curious!

 

I speak from experience because I had them all. I had the original yellow Billy's that came on my truck and one of the front one's took a shit on me with less than 30K on it. So then I upgraded to the 5100's and had them on for about 30K. I took them off because the rear shocks were shitting all over themselves and because I got the deal of the century on my OME kit. It was a used kit (9 months old) and since having them on my truck for over 40K they are all still in fantastic condition!

 

Cool. Good to know. Was just curious about it since to me it seems like more peeps go with the Billy's than anything else. At least when I look at the what have you done to your 2nd gen thread, and it's about suspension, that seems to be the most "used".
