But OME only does shocks for their 3" lift kit for our trucks, right? I didn't think they offered anything for factory ride height.

Yeah I think it is because it's the cheapest way to have an adjustable suspension. With the OME stuff the only way to raise or lower your suspension you have change springs. With the billy's you just take them apart adjust and put back together. Nothing is easier to adjust than a set of coilovers but they are big bucks and people get scared of rebuilding them.

When changing out the suspension each time I did it you could tell it was and upgrade. The stock shocks were very skinny compared to the 5100's that had a lot more diameter to them. That means it would hold more fluid and have less fade. Same thing again when I got the OME, they are a lot beefier than the 5100's

Not necessarily true. OME offers shocks for our truck but the ride height is dictated by the springs. You can go with shorter springs and get less than 3" of lift. I can you can go all the way down to only 1-1.5" of lift with OME 883x springs. You should be able to use OME rear shocks at stock height as they still operate within the same parameters as the stock suspension (still use the same bump stops so you shouldn't bottom the shock out).

Hm. I may have to look at the OME's too, then. Definitely need new ones, though. I've got nearly 70k on the Tacoma now and the ride is definitely getting bouncy.

Nope they can used for springs from 1" to 3" of lift. Check out all the lift options by using different spings

    OME 883 (16.5mm bar dia)(375mm 14.76in free height)(9.8 #turns)(4.7kg coil weight)(Rate: 590 lb/in 103 N/mm) = 1" Lift on DBL Cab

    OME 884 (16.5mm bar dia)(390mm 15.16in free height )(9.8 #turns)(4.7kg coil weight)(Rate: 590 lb/in 103 N/mm) = 2" Lift on DBL Cab

    OME 885 (16.5mm bar dia)(395mm 15.55in free height)(9.8 #turns)(4.7kg coil weight)(Rate: 590 lb/in 103 N/mm) = 2.5" Lift on DBL Cab

    OME 886 (17.5mm bar dia)(402mm 15.83in free height)(10.6 #turns )(5.9kg coil weight)(Rate: 660 lb/in 115 N/mm) = 2.5" Lift on DBL Cab with as much as +200 weight added

    OME 887 (16.5mm bar dia)(400mm 15.75in free height)(9.8 #turns )(4.7kg coil weight)(Rate: 590 lb/in 103 N/mm) = 3" Lift on DBL Cab

    Sourced from here; http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/st...-__Various_Lift_Heights_Available_(PAIR).html

EDIT; Looks like Mike beat me to it. I was going to find the average ride height for each spring if you guys wanted

Got off the phone with Toyota corporate. What a waste of time... I can't decide what is the best way to go now... I can get the under coating from Toyota which is basically throwing a duck a life preserver... They basically told me if there is no hole 10mm or more do to rust, then in their eyes the frame hasn't been structurally compromised... Ergo it passes inspection. Even though my frame is only 1/32 thick in some places... The guy said that is only surface rust... Even though I can pick off chunks with my fingernails. He says only the dealership can make the call, but has to meet these exact criteria, there's no room for other factors, and the dealer says it's out of their hands... Back and forth... Back and forth...

My dilemma now is do I go through the trouble of fixing it properly, or go against my moral fibers, give up on the truck and trade it in for a newer, rust free vehicle? Or get a Ford raptor... (lol jk)

fixing the frame is going to be more costly than taking the hit and trading it in for a newer one. If you factor time lost at work, materials... Energy...

Or trade it in for a v6 sr5 base model and kit the living piss outta it? I've already got all the suspension... Put arb lockers front and rear, re-gear and weld up some new bumpers? Although my truck is great and I don't like the newer models with all the added electronic BS... My gut says stay with what I have, but I'm getting an ulcer thinking about what I should do.

Cam as much as it sucks I would get out of that truck for a new one. That frame is junk just like all of them. It will cost you down time and labor, both of which only you can put a price on. What about material, both stock and welding supplies. Now whether you go Toyota or any other manufacturer is the question. I would sit back and ask what I need and what I want for a vehicle and then start the hunt. Also what about liability? I don't pretend to know anything about the legal issues if something happens but the truck will be on the road not just a trailer queen brought in the woods.

So after all that BS, you'd still trade for another Taco? I'd be running from Toyota with my middle finger in the air. I think you should trade for an F150 :stirthepot:

Hopefully he told the asshat corporate douche that also. Even if everyone on the family drove a specific brand, there's only so much abuse one will take before jumping ship.

Just gotta make sure if you get a Ford, you eat beans straight from the can and drink regular budweiser, while saying 'Murica at any opportunity you get.

I take out my dissatisfaction with Toyota by driving old Mopars instead. After that whatever problems the Tacoma has don't seem that bad :p

That sounds like a personal problem. I say 'Murica at any opportunity but it would take a lot more than a Ford emblem to make me eat beans and drink Bud.

I understand why the dealerships hands are tied, they're governed by federal law and company set criteria for what fails a frame... And the Toyota higher ups made the criteria absolutely absurd... If the frame has a hole, it fails... But if a frame is paper thin without a hole but it is deforming because of rotten metal, which is obviously structurally compromised, it passes? My front spring hangers are literally bending in because of how little metal is left on the frame...

Falmouth Toyota is an awesome dealership. Their service dept rocks. I wouldn't even consider going somewhere else. Let alone switch to another brand.
