    Always hard. I had a bad split when I was 26 after 6 yrs and we never lived together or got engaged. I will freely admit I didn't help being a drunk. However, being with a codependent person who refused to do anything for herself just sucked. Took me a year to finally get my things from her during which I got threatened with police, restraining order, etc.

    That said I've cohabitated with one person who was not family in my life..and I married her. I took a lot of chances being 5 months clean when we started dating and moving in 4 months later. Ended up buying the house together a year later, and I did give her the ring our first night in the house and we got married less than a yr later.
