I'm growing weary of funerals. Tomorrow I attend another wake of a soldier I deployed with, who fell to suicide. If you guys know a veteran (not me, assholes, I'm fine), check in on them.

Indeed. This was a man with over twenty years of service, three deployments, and as I can only imagine that he didn't know hundreds of brothers and sisters who would've stood with him through hell and high water.

Wouldn't happen to be a mass state trooper? Funeral in Gardner?

No, he was a full time tech in Concord, NH. Funeral is Monday in Boscawen, NH at the state cemetery.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and Tacomas. Just purchased 3rd gen black dbl OR. I'm loving it so far despite the vibration I feel and have read about on the forum. I'm local in Mass and I can't wait to learn more about these trucks.

Sorry to hear that, we are here for you if you did wanna talk about it. One of my coworkers had a best friend he deployed with commit suicide, and it seems like that effected him more than the time he served. Can't imagine being in that position.

It's true. I also think that a lot of ppl forget that our vets can come back emotionally drained, or otherwise scarred. Sometimes all it takes is the 5 minutes to have a quick "how you been" conversation just to let them know you care.

I'm very sorry to hear that! It is extremely disturbing that so many vets survive combat, give up so much only to come home and live out their days homeless, jobless, dealing with addiction and/or suicide. Just seems like there's a lot more we could do for those who risk everything for us.

Thank you. I'm just blowing off some of the stress here. I don't know how I'm going to look at the family tomorrow. It's hard not to feel like I/we let them down because we failed to help their loved one.

Yeah. We try to address it within the organization, but it's almost impossible to convey to civilians what the experience is, and the baggage that comes with it.

In the end you are correct, we need to do more.

Suicide is such a horrible thing anyways, and as I see it especially so when someone gives up their life to serve us and it happens.

Not the same reason for it but I'm tired of burying people

Hard as it is, try to remember that sometimes people have all the support in the world and either can't or won't ask for help..dont beat yourself up man

I've never served, but have close friends who have and one in particular who saw it as her life's calling. Some years in things happened to her and have drastically changed her life. I still worry if I don't hear from her often.

You're right, only one who served can truly get it but I do in a general way

Best thing you can do is care and keep checking in, that's what counts, especially in this age when personal interaction has gone to shit.

Yup. While she doesn't live close by I do keep up with her. One advantage to social media today.

Chris, sorry to hear about your friend. I don't have any good words of advise but please let us know if there is anything you need to get off your chest. As far as what you could have done, I know it's pretty normal to blame yourself but please don't. If your friend wanted to he could have and would have reached out to someone. There is no way in the world you can tell what's going on inside of others. Like you said the best thing you can do is keep in contact with them and let them know you care.

    Hope you feel better buddy

No I haven't . Why are you interested?
