Oh man, if my girlfriend were to see the wine bottle and glass holder, she would need to have it.

That was probably the easiest of them all. I think I did that one while at work between my classes. Start to finish maybe an hour. I may or may not have put some of my students to work on that one too.:anonymous:

Where do you get the pallets from? That would be the one thing to hold me up from trying something like this, reliably made pallets.

For sure. I'd vote for just painting them. Powder coat won't hold up anyway, in New England.

Just about anywhere. Hardware stores, I've got a local distribution center for a car dealership nearby and they advertise their pallets for free first come first serve on CL. They've got some monster ones down there too that I've been thinking of making a shed out of....each pallet is 6 x 12 and beefy, ready made walls is what I'm thinking.

I've gotten them for free on craigslist. Places that pick up pallet for you need a minimum of a bunch before they'll send a truck, so people just give them away

Around here pallets are actually kind of hard to come by. Probably partly because of the recent Pinterest craze with Pallet EVERYTHING, but also because lots of people stack their firewood on them, and some people cut them up and burn them for heat during the winter too.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
My BIL made one of his shed's out of concrete forms. They get all oiled up all the time when they are used so that thing should probably longer than he will. Lol

Yeah definitely, I've gone down there after a couple of guys that attack the pile with a chainsaw. Pretty sure they use them for firewood too.

I've thought that a few times after seeing some of the foundation pours going on in the new construction areas. I think that's a, gotta be in the right place at the right time, kind of material. Pretty cool none the less.

check craigslist in your area. I've found a bunch of postings over the years where a company will post the address of their warehouse and a post that says "big pile out back, take all you like"

Here's some non-pallet work of mine. Made this blanket chest for my daughter about 14 years ago. It was her toy chest. Made from Cherry. My biggest project is my kitchen cabinets, also from Cherry. Wife is in there making desserts and breads for Sunday so no picture now. Dad was a master cabinet carpenter and now I have all of his equipment in my basement. Let's just say I have no shortage of ways to cut, route or shape, and turn wood.image.jpg

    Very Jealous.
I've gotten pretty good at improvising with what I have for good results, but someday I want to have all the toys to do truly professional work.

Also, nice work on the toy chest.

Mine when I was a kid was an old wooden banana crate with a lid nailed on it

Thanks for the compliments. If I only knew then what I know now, I'd have my own cabinet shop. When I was a teen, Dad and I were like water and oil. After high school, I worked as a mechanic for a few years. One day Dad asked if I wanted the business; otherwise he was closing it. Of course I told him no. Now don't get me wrong, life has been good but there are times when I'm at work getting driven hard that I wish I had made a different choice. At least I have a skill that I can fall back on if needed.
